Be your own best spokeswomen...

-

I NOW run an interior design company Amour Design that provides design , build and project management together.

I started out my career as a tiler at 19 serving my time for four years and then started up my own tiling business for a further 9 years after my apprenticeship. There was a sort of natural progression into design as many of my clients would ask for help in selecting tiles and bathroom ware and paint colours. I have always felt most at home on building sites and have never been afraid of getting my hands dirty and getting stuck into physical work. My father won medals for Ireland in plumbing trades competitions and he instilled hard work and high standards into me from a young age. I love the buzz on a building site and believe my on site experience adds to what I can offer when it comes to doing complete house renovations. Interior design is so much more complex than just picking out nice products, it’s my job to know if the product will fit and is suitable for the area im using it in and in my opinion it’s essential to have a certain amount of building knowledge to be able to do my job. I love dealing with different people and different personalities and try to always offer my clients solutions rather than bore them with the many building issues that can arise. I would love to see more women going into trades and see more of a female presence on site. So in a nutshell I can offer a service from design only to full project management and I have a great team of tradesmen to complete any building project.

HAVING your own voice in business is essential to how you view success. No matter what level or scale your business is at, having a strong, vocal input is what sets the tone for success.

The business world is an environment where opinions and soundbites dominate, which is why you need to make YOUR voice heard. A strong voice in business can help consolidate your business during quiet periods, helping to reassure staff and clients, while during busy times a strong, independent voice will help make your business stand out.

Making sure your voice is heard is probably the simplest piece of advice you’ll hear, but putting it into practice isn’t always easy.

Be your own best spokeswoman; don’t be shy; don’t let others steal your moment; don’t keep your best ideas and plans inside and don’t be browbeaten by someone when you know that you are correct in your actions.

People will respect you for talking about your company in a positive and ambitious way. Be outgoing and give your business a reputation for being affable and vocal in a friendly constructive manner.
