SHILLELAGH-COOLBOY

-

Shillelagh-Coolboy GAA Club celebrated and reflected on a very successful 2019 with a dinner dance and presentation night in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey, on Saturday, February 29.

Thanks to County Chairman Martin Fitzgerald and his partner Trish who attended representing the County Board.

Martin presented the league and Finnegan Cup medals to the Junior ‘A’ football panel,.

Congratulations to Aaron Kinsella, a popular and worthy winner of the players player of the year award.

A huge thank you to all who attended and contributed to the success of the event. A special word of thanks to our hardworking organising committee for their hard work and dedication.

All connected with Shillelagh-Coolboy GAA Club would like to join in wishing Coolkenno clubman Don Jackman a speedy recovery to full health, a great servant to club and county Don while best known for his exploits with the large ball was no mean operator with the camán and sliotar and figured prominently on Shillelagh hurling teams in recent years.

Don is at present recuperating in hospital we wish him and his family all the best’ a special mention to Don’s team mates for their invaluable expertise when assisting Don in his hour of need. Well done all concerned.

The Junior ‘A’ football team now operating in League Division 2 having achieved promotion in 2019 travelled to take on Stratford-Grangecon in their opening game of the new season on Saturday, last March 7.

After a close hard fought encounter which was of course dominated by the inclement weather conditions we had to give best to the home side losing by the minimum margin on a 1-13 to 1-12 scoreline.

The players and management team of Jon Hynes, Laurie Cullen and Donal Wafer will be hoping they can garner their first brace of league points when Laragh are the visitors to Shillelagh-Coolboy in round 2 of the league on Saturday, March 21, venue and time to be confirmed,

Round 3 is an away trip to Askinagap to take on Ballymanus on March 28, round 4 is a home game on April 4, no low hanging fruit in this division, ladies and gents, but in fairness the lads were a tad unlucky not to get at least a share of the spoils in their opening fixture and are more than capable of holding their own in this division.
