NEWTOWN JUNIORS

-

Five of our teams were in action last weekend. Our under-8s (kindly sponsored by Kearns Construction) travelled to take on Arklow United and played out an exciting game of football.

On the day John Paul Dunleavy, Nathan Hall, Samuel Kearns and Jake Fitzsimons were among the players who played well.

Our under-9s played host to St. Anthonys Black and both teams served up a feast of football. On the day Reece Kearns, Tommy Ryan and Finn Heffernan were among the players who starred.

Our under-10s (kindly sponsored by Shape) travelled to Avoca to take on St. Patricks and both teams went at it hammer and tongs and, on the day, it was the home team who edged a seven-goal thriller. David McCormack scored a hat-trick for Newtown and him along with Colin Healy were Newtown’s star players.

Another win for our under-11s but it was a win they had to work hard for at home to Rathnew Yellow.

The game ended 3-1 to the home side and the Newtown goals came from Albie Chance, Nathan McMahon and Lucas Dowdall. Best on the day were JV McCullagh-Kelly, Kaydin McMahon and Oisin Duffy.

Finally, the 13s made the long trip to Shillelagh and that journey didn’t bear any fruit as they suffered a heavy defeat to a very strong home team. Brooklyn Doyle scored for Newtown while the whole team gave it a good go.

We are always on the lookout for new players at all age groups so if you have a child or children who would like to play for any of our teams please contact any committee member. We especially are looking extra players for our under-8s, 13s and 14s who all have a couple of spaces in their squads.

Our ever-popular Development Squad are now back in training under the guidance of head coach Lauren Nolan who is ably assisted by fellow coaches Grace, Nathan and Sean. They coach four to seven-year-olds in the Community Centre from 10am until

11am every Saturday morning. For further information on all matters relating to the Development Squad contact our secretary Hughie at hughienolan@ gmail.com.

We only have one player from the club celebrating a birthday in the coming week and he is Colin Healy from our under-10s. Happy birthday Colin from everyone at Newtown Juniors F.C.

The club would like to congratulate one of our former coaches Stephen Nolan and his stunning bride Aoife on their marriage last weekend. We wish you both many years of happiness.

Our latest Last Man Standing had its Week 2 the past weekend. From our 96 Players who were at the starting line in Week 2 in pursuit of the €500 prize pot and going into the MNF between Leicester and Aston Villa we have so far lost a further 30 players.

Unfortunately for the Players who selected Wolves, Spurs, Southampton and Manchester City they have exited

the competition.

Week 3 fixtures will be for the weekend of Saturday 14th-Monday 16th March 2020. All selections for week three must be sent on or before 9pm on Thursday, March 12.

Rules of the competition are on our Facebook and Twitter pages and are also available on request. Good luck to all Players and thank you everyone for your continued support.

On a sadder note the club wishes to extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Peter Gill, Arklow, and formerly of Newtownmountkennedy and the UK. May he rest in peace.
