JUNK KOUTURE

Congratulations to the CCA TY Art students who took part in the Regional Finals of the Junk Kouture competition in the Helix on Wednesday, March 4.

Junk Kouture is a fashion design competition that challenges students to design, create and model a piece of high end couture from recycled material and everyday junk.

Two entries, ‘Eclipse’ and ‘Pretty Little Plastic’ were selected to represent CCA in this prestigious competition.

Becky Killick, Klaudia Cielecka, Laragh Davis designed the ‘Eclipse’ dress, which was made from recycled paper. Chloe Byrne and Erin Brady were the designers of the ‘Pretty Little Plastic’ dress which used recycled plastic as their material and was modeled by Bryony Conalty Pullinger.

Congratulations to the girls for reaching the finals and to Ms Tarrant, who coordinated the girls with their fantastic designs.

WORLD BOOK DAY

CCA marked World Book day on Thursday, March 5, with students and staff sharing their favourite books with each other and discussing the importance of reading.

A list of staff and students’ book recommendations is available in the school library and on classroom doors, along with reviews of books that are also on display in the school library. We would encourage all our students to enjoy the pleasure of reading and to be life-long readers.

INTERNET SAFETY DAY

Internet Safety Day was held in CCA on Thursday, March 5, with a video made by senior students promoting the importance of online safety.

The senior students gave some practical tips about staying safe online; including managing your private settings, advice on what to do if you are the victim of cyber bullying, and being aware of the harm you may do by an inappropriate or hurtful online comment.

Some of the activities included poster competitions, walking debates and digital footprint activities. Congratulations to Madeleine Scott and Julia Wolk, who won the Internet Safety Poster competition.

Well done to all who contributed and to Lucy Phipps Rooney, who edited the film.

EMMANUEL CONCERT

Students from the TY choir were involved in the Emmanuel Concert in the Helix on Monday, March 9.

The Emmanuel Concert is a prestigious event where 80 schools join forces to perform 20 songs as a Mass choir. It takes great effort on the students’ part to learn all the songs for the event, who then perform to a packed audience with the accompaniment of a live band.

The CCA music students enjoyed this great opportunity to perform on a national stage. Well done to all involved, and to Ms Armstrong, who prepared the students in advance.

PE EXPO 20X20

Senior PE students from CCA took part in the PE Expo in DCU on Wednesday, March 4. Their project ‘20x20@CCA’ was a promotional project supporting the 20x20 campaign which is aimed at increasing participation, attendance and media coverage of all female sports nationally by 20% by the end of the year.

The students involved in this project were Niamh Kelly, Lauren Delamare, Stevie Stokes and Nicole Dutton. The girls won their overall category titled ‘The Power of Sport.’ The project came second overall in the senior category. This is a fantastic achievement by the girls and their teacher Ms Miley and Mr Duffy. Well done to all involved.

NON-UNIFORM DAY

Thanks to all the students who supported the non-uniform day on Friday, March 6. The funds raised will be reinvested into school activities that support the holistic experience of student’s lives in CCA.
