ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE CANCELLED

Newtownmou­ntkennedy St Patrick’s Day Committee would like to thank every person, group and business who have supported celebratin­g St Patrick’s Day in our town. As a committee we have been blown away by the support and Generosity our community have shown us.

Unfortunat­ely we have to CANCEL our celebratio­ns for this year’s St Patrick’s Day. The health and well-being of our community is paramount with the situation we find ourselves in with the extremely Contagious COVID-19.

ALZHEIMER’S/ DEMENTIA SOCIETY

We meet every Friday at 11 a.m. in the Parkview Hotel, Newtownmou­ntkennedy. It is an opportunit­y for family members and carers to bring their loved ones for a coffee and a chat. Our meet ups are open to people in the surroundin­g areas Towns and Villages.

DISTRICT FORUM

NEWTOWN GAA

Newtown GAA have signed up for the Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge and would like to invite all members of the community to join the Challenge which will commence on March 16 and ends on April 12. Participan­ts clock up steps in their own time and the club with the most steps will win an O’Neills voucher for club gear. All you need to do is download the My Life app, sync your activity tracker or use a tracking app to track your steps. It only takes a few minutes to to join the challenge: first download the MyLife App from the App store or Google Play Store; the tap on the SOCIAL Tab of the MyLife App; select Challenges; select the Challenge for your Province; tap on JOIN and select

Newtown GAA have been selected to partake in the Gaelic for girls programme aimed at increasing participat­ion in Ladies’ Gaelic Football.

The programme will commence on Saturday, March 14, at 10 a.m. at Newtown GAA pitch and run for an eight-week duration, focusing on fun and participat­ion allowing girls to get an introducti­on to Ladies’ Gaelic Football in a non-competitiv­e environmen­t.

The G4G program is open to all girls between the ages of 8-12 years who are not currently playing Gaelic football or a member of a club. All participan­ts will receive a G4G jersey and will participat­e in a fun mini bliz at the end of the eight weeks with other clubs.

Players will also be encouraged to register with Newtown Ladies GAA and those that do will be integrated into the existing teams. Registrati­on forms have been handed out in the local schools and anyone wishing to find out more informatio­n can contact Margaret Synnott of Newtown LGFA Looking foward to seeing lots of new faces for a fun and enjoyable experience.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

Five of our teams were in action last weekend. Our under-8s (Kindly sponsored by Kearns Constructi­on) travelled to take on Arklow United and played out an exciting game of football. On the day John Paul Dunleavy, Nathan Hall, Samuel Kearns and Jake Fitzsimons were among the players who played well.

Our under-9s played host to St Anthony’s Black and both teams served up a feast of football. On the day Reece Kearns, Tommy Ryan and Finn Heffernan were among the players who starred.
