Avonmore MS to postpone ‘Joseph’
Avonmore Musical Society has postponed its upcoming production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’.
Performances of the muchloved musical comedy were due to take place in St Mary’s Hall in the town from April 14 to 18. Rehearsals for the show have been underway under the guidance of musical director Naoimh Penston, director Stephen Acton and choreographer Martina Lynch.
Writing on social media last week, Tomás Byrne, chair of Avonmore Musical Society said that ‘in the context of the evolving circumstances around Covid-19, our scheduled production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ due to be staged on April 14 to 18 has been postponed.
‘Following latest expert advice, and also the advice of our Taoiseach on RTÉ News a short time ago, stating that any event with gathering of over 100 people needs to be cancelled, this year’s show has been postponed and will be rescheduled to a later date. Please be assured that we will be in further communication regarding the status of this year’s show.
‘The welfare of audience members, cast and crew is our primary concern.
‘We, the committee, would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors, patrons, cast and crew for their preparation, planning and support over the past few months.’
Plans for a Avonmore Musical Society pop-up shop in Arklow on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 have also been put back.
Meanwhile, the Asgard Theatre has also confirmed that performances by George Murphy and Christy Dignam have been postponed to a later date.
