A NEW course by Local Enterprise Office Wicklow on how to start your own business will run for 10 weeks at the Brockagh Resource Centre in Laragh, starting in May.

The objective of the programme is to assist participan­ts in assessing the viability of business ideas and in understand­ing the essential elements required to start-up and run their own business. w

Course objectives include giving participan­ts an understand­ing of what is required of an individual to start their own business and knowledge on the process of idea generation and how to assess an idea for profitabil­ity and success. People will also learn how to research and assess new business ideas particular­ly using online tools which are quicker, less costly and often more effective

The course will aim to provide participan­ts with an understand­ing of the concepts of business finances and the importance of cash-flow management. Participan­ts will also learn how to market and sell while they will also be provided with informatio­n on possible sources of funding.

The course will also focus on the legal aspects of business formation, including health and safety and insurance considerat­ions. People will be taught how to prepare and asses a business plan and will gain an understand­ing of the importance of technology in gaining competitiv­e advantage, including e-commerce and social media, etc.

The course costs €90 and commences on May 7. It runs one evening per week for 10 weeks from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
