SCHOOL MUSICAL
Well done to all the cast and crew involved in the CCA production of Popstars the 90s Musical in the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray last week.
The cast put a huge amount of time and effort into this production, and we were all looking forward to three great nights of musical theatre.
The musical was performed for the Primary Schools Wednesday matinee show, and the Wednesday evening performance, with everyone raving about how incredible the production was.
Unfortunately, following the advice from the Government in relation to Covid-19, the Thursday and Friday night shows had to be cancelled, with the health and safety of our school community taking priority.
We wish to thank everyone involved in this year’s production. The director and choreograph of the musical Siobhán Gallagher and Yvonne Prendergast. Thanks to Linda Murphy and all the work of our parents’ council who put such hard work into the organisation of this year’s production.
To Chris Nugent, Vinny Hunt and James Gilnagh for their work with the sets and organising the team backstage. To the Art Department for their support with the promotional posters.
Thanks to Ruairí Farrell and Leanne Coleman for all the work they did behind the scenes in the run up to the show. Thanks to the support of Emma Page and Louise Stanley, who organised the cast for the matinee and evening production. To all the local businesses who kindly sponsored the show, and to all the staff, parents and volunteers who supported this year’s musical in any way.
Finally, thanks to all the cast and crew. We know you are all disappointed that you didn’t get your three-night run, but hopefully you will have great memories of the two performances and that you enjoyed the experience.
SEACHTAIN NA GAEILGE
Bhí CCA ag ceilúradh Seachtain na Gaeilge 2020 an seachtain seo chaite, le neart imeachtaí ar siúl sa scoil chun an Ghaeilge a spreagadh is a chothú.
CCA celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge last week with numerous activities and events taking place in the school and the classroom to inspire and nurture the use of the Irish language in our everyday interactions.
These activities included seanfhocal an lae, poster competitions, treasure hunts, quizzes, drama productions and Mr Rice inspirational motivational speeches at assembly.
The prizes for the various competitions such as Gaelgóir na Seachtaine will be awarded to the students once the schools reopen.
Beatha teanga í a labhairt.
IRISH NEWTOWN PLAY
Comhghairdeas le daltaí ó rang a ceathair i Newtown Primary, who did a wonderful production of the all Irish play Oisín i dTír na nÓg last Thursday, March 12.
This cross-curricular links programme involves Transition Year students from Coláiste Chraobh Abhann and Newtownmountkennedy
Primary School working on a joint drama as Gaeilge, which is staged every year in Newtown Primary to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge.
This production was in rehearsals since last year, and all the hard work of the students and teachers involved culminated in this fine performance.
Well done to all the amazing actors who performed a full play in Irish to such a high standard. A big thanks to the TY production team who guided and supported the primary students with props, costumes, music and stage production.
Parents, staff, students and family members all attended the play on the Thursday morning and were thoroughly entertained by the wonderful acting from the Rang a ceathair students.
A special thanks to Ms Doran and Mr Rice, who directed the production this year, giving up their time to work on this very exciting project.
Thanks to rang a ceathair teachers Ms Nolan and Ms Keyes, and to Erica for all their work and time they gave to ensure the students were prepared, and to Principal Ms Lennon for welcoming the CCA staff and students into the school to work on this cross-curricular drama production.
PHOTO COMPETITION
The TY Journalism students took part in a photo competition where they were challenged to capture an image that they felt explored the theme of ‘Climate Change’.
The journalism students were asked to think creatively about their photo and were also required to write a short piece outlining their aesthetic choices and explaining the scientific or social message behind the image.
The standard of the competition was very high, and the judges said they found choosing the winning photos quite challenging.
After numerous debates and deliberations, the following images were chosen.
Joint third place went to Dasha Murray for her image ‘winter Chirping’ and Maria Munoz Cornejo for ‘New World Track.’ Runner-up went to Katlyn Coster’s image ‘Tilted View’ and the winning photo went to Pablo Barrera Ricaurte for his photo ‘Road to Death.’.
The winning images will be put on display in the school. Thanks to the judges of the competition Mr Healy, Ms Wright and Ms Tarrant.
TY DRUMMING
Neil Dowling from Drum Nature visited CCA last week where he was working with the CCA TY students on rhythm-based activities using African drums. The students thoroughly involved the classes, finding the classes both relaxing and fun. Thanks to Neil for facilitating this event.
