BAKE OFF
On Thursday, 12th March, First year students took part in a bake off to raise funds for BUMBLEance, Ireland’s National Children’s Ambulance Service. They were tasked with creating a cake representing the theme of “Joy” as BUMBLEance strive to bring a smile to the children that avail of their services. Competition was fierce and the judges had a very difficult decision to make. Following a lot of debate, Katie O’Connor and Fabian Szymanski were crowned the winners, with Leah Conlon, Caitlin Merrigan and Caitlin Keogh taking second place, and Lily O’Sullivan and Cara McCormick in third place. Well done to all involved and thanks to the mentors for their assistance with the event.

1ST YEAR GAELIC FOOTBALL
Wicklow Quarter Final CCM hosted St Kevin’s Dunlavin on Friday, 6th March, in the First Year Gaelic football quarter final.
This proved to be a very evenly contested affair for the first 50 minutes as only one score separated the teams. CCM went in at half time leading by one point after playing with a slight breeze; scores came from Liam Delaney, Lee Brown, Darragh Lacey and Emmet Ronan.
The boys refocused at half time knowing that they had to put in a big performance to win the game. Brandon Battams was introduced as a sub at half time and made a significant difference as he attacked at every opportunity from centre back and finished the game with 2-1.
Alex Earls went into goal at half time due to injury but he made two very good saves and each time he had possession of the ball he delivered it with accuracy to players in space allowing them to set up attacks from the half back line.
Ciaran Matthews went from being the goalie in the first half to corner forward for the second half and contributed two points. All of CCM scores came from open play. Well done to the lads on a strong performance.
COUNTY SCHOOLS SEMI-FINAL–CCM’s interest in the 1st year Wicklow County Championship ended on Wednesday, 11th March, in Kilcoole. On the day, CCM were beaten by a more balanced and stronger team.
To their credit the CCM boys never gave in and continued to the very end and finished the game by scoring a goal with the last kick of the game.
We lost the toss and played against the wind in the first half, we retained possession well with good accurate hand and foot passing and built attack after attack but did not convert our possession into score. CCA had an ability to counter attack at pace with the aid of the wind and were clinical once they got the ball into the inside line.
Our boys will learn from games like this and the game they played against Dunlavin in the quarter final. Players like Alex Dunne, Lee Brown, Alex Earls and Mattew Dowling have really developed during the course of this campaign and hopefully will use this experience in other campaigns they play for the school.
JUNIOR GIRLS GAELIC WIN
