WHILE the Wicklow Cancer Support office may be closed due to the Coronavirus, staff are still on hand by phone should anyone require any assistance.

Transport to and from hospitals appointments are also still continuing.

Wicklow Cancer Support Chairperson Eileen Earls is keen to get the message out support services are still available despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

She said: ‘The staff and volunteers here at Wicklow Cancer Support are missing the personal contact with our patients. It is now eight weeks since our centre had to close due to the Covid 19 restrictions. We are working from home and are still at the end of the phone should any help is needed. Our services are still available, including transport to and from all major hospitals in Dublin for cancer appointments and treatments. Our drivers are still willing to keep the transport service running. Counselling sessions can be done on phone by arrangement remain ongoing. If you just feel like a chat, staff are happy to ring you – as we are aware there are many patients living alone and feeling very much isolated at this time.’

Eileen also offered thanks to all those who have contacted Wicklow Cancer Support to offer any help required, as well as the various fundraisers which have been organised on their behalf. She also urges anyone feeling unwell to seek medical assistance rather than feeling they are being a burden on the fight against Covid-19.

‘We would advise anyone who is not feeling well at this time not to hesitate to contact their GP for a checkup,’ added Eileen.
