Three wins in a week for Tochar

Division 1 round-up 1990 An Tochar 1-13 Stratford 0-4

An Tochar Senior footballers clocked up three Hill-Opel League Division 1 wins on the trot within seven days this week in 1990 when burnout was seemingly more or less unheard of in the Garden County.

They started with an easy victory over Greystones on Sunday, then recorded a rather surprisingly easy win over St. Patrick’s on Tuesday and finished the week with a clear-cut win over Stratford on Saturday night at Roundwood.

Having led by 0-9 to 0-2 at halftime they finally beat Stratford 1-13 to 0-4 and fully deserved their victory.

The westerners missed three or four regulars. After half-time they staged a fight back and had An Tochar on the run, but then they lost a player to the line after a couple of unnecessary niggly incidents.

From there on they were fighting a losing battle and Seamus Cullen for the homesters hit a great goal 10 minutes from time to wrap up the points.

Thomas Keogh, Nick O’Neill and Andy Moore did best for the visitors who were a shade unlucky when Liam Cullen in the An Tochar goal made a fine save from Hanly. Thomas Keogh kicked a great point from the resultant ’50.

Baltinglass 2-17 Blessington 0-2

Despite having to call on club officers Seamus Kelly and Johnny Farrell to make up 15 at the start of this game in 1990, the defending champions still dished out a hammering to a Blessington side without the services of Fergus Daly.

The game was well over by half-time when Baltinglass led by 1-8 to 0-2

Hollywood 3-4 Blessington 2-6

Fergus Daly was present for the second game Blessington played that week but it didn’t prevent them goig down to Hollywood at Blessington.

Goals from Kevin Traynor, John Traynor and Paul Allen did the trick for Hollywood.

Tinahely 2-7 Rathnew 0-9

The return of the injured Paul Tyrrell and Thomas Murphy capped a good week for Tinahely who toppled Rathnew in their second game in seven days.
