MUM AND DAUGTHER BOTH SHAVE THEIR HEADS TO FUNDRAISE FOR PIETA

- By MYLES BUCHANAN

A MOTHER and daughter who usually take part in Darkness into Light have come up with a slightly different way of raising funds for Pieta House.

Eileen and Aoife Patterson set-up an iDonate.ie page promising to both shave their heads in order to reach a fundraising target of €1,000. As of Monday morning, the pair had already raised €5,385, with donations still accepted until June 17.

Eileen and Aoife have actively supported each Darkness into Light event for Pieta House after losing someone very close to them. With this year’s Darkness into Light cancelled due to Covid-19, the pair decided to try their hand at something a little different.

Aoife’s and her husband Pat run Wicklow Willows, creating unique, handmade Irish baskets.

‘They only started up the iDonate page on Thursday. They felt they would be doing well to raise €1,000 but they are well beyond €5,000 at this stage,’ said Pat.

‘They are delighted with the response they got. The people of Laragh and Roundwood have been particularly supportive.

Usually the pair of them do Darkness into Light together, along with Aoife’s father and her brothers.

They couldn’t do it this year so they came up with the idea of the head shave fundraiser.

Aoife shaved her mother’s hair on Sunday and I shaved off Aoife’s hair.

The fundraising page remains open until June 17 so hopefully people will continue making donations.’
