Delgany ICA help the Covid battle

-

THE Delgany Guild of the Irish Countrywomen’s association has been sewing scrubs, which they then gave to a local nursing home.

Beth Holmes of Delgany ICA said the call came from the ICA head office in Merrion Road in Dublin.

They contacted all the guilds and asked if anyone would be available to do the sewing. ‘They would source the material and tape and if we could provide the sewing machine and thread they would send packs,’ said Beth.

‘We got in touch with the members in the craft group. Each person got a pack, one or two got two, and made up the scrubs.’

They selected Greystones nursing home Airfield and the owner collected the scrubs from outside Beth’s house.

Her home was the depo for the members who were bringing their fully sewed packs over there. ‘They would ring to say they were coming and I had the garden table out for them to be placed on,’ said Beth.

‘It all worked out very smoothly,’ said Beth. ‘I’m quite proud of the sets we made.’

She said that they were all provided with cut-out pieces as a basis for the scrubs.

They also received a work sheet to explain some of the intricacies such as button holes on the bottoms and the fold over neck.

They were made of a cotton or poplin type material and were light and washable.

‘They were delighted to receive them,’ said Beth, who said that they had about eight sets.

‘That wasn’t enough for everyone but they said they would raffle them off among the staff.’

The Delgany ICA women are ready and willing to do whatever is asked of them. ‘It’s quite difficult to get the packs, so we hope head office is sourcing more,’ said Beth. ‘We of course are prepared to put the shoulder to the wheel and delighted to do it.’
