The men who made up the strong Darglesiders

-

LITTLE BRAY UNITED were one of the top teams in the Wicklow League when they toppled Aughrim Rangers to claim the Wicklow Cup in 1992.

Clearly the star man in the team was Kieran ‘Tarzan’ O’Brien who went on to enjoy 304 league appearances, and an impressive 90 goals for Bray Wanderers.

Darren ‘Mousey’ Keating is a name that jumps off the team sheet of Little Bray United. He enjoyed a wonderful career at local level, winning Wicklow Cups with Little Bray and St Peter’s, six Premier titles (two with Little Bray, four with St Peter’s), eight Charlie Bishop Cup medals (four for Little Bray and four for St. Peter’s) and four Premier Shields while also reaping rich rewards from a Leinster Senior League stint with Greystones AFC.

In Gary Snow they possessed a goalkeeper of serious talent. He is suggested as being thebest goalkeeper in the Wicklow League that season after his performances for the Bray men.

Several players from the panel went on to have quality stints in the Leinster Senior League including Stephen Martin who lined out for Wayside and Arklow Town.

A number of players went into management including ‘Tarzan’ O’Brien who manages Ardmore in the LSL, John Bishop and

Des Kelly.

The 24-year-old construction worker joined Little Bray from Dargle Rovers. A fine midfielder, Jim has a Premier Shield winners medal to his credit.

21-year-old Stephen has been in commanding form at the heart of the Darglesiders’ defence this season. Martin played for the Bray Wanderers Youths before coming to Little Bray. His honours include two Bishop Cups and one Premier Shield.

The former Wolfe Tone Rangers man is a most versatile performer. Having already won Premier Shield and Division 3A medals, the 23-yearold defender/midfielder would like to add to his collection.

Edward McCann:

Kieran O’Brien: Known to his mates as ‘Tarzan’, Kieran has been scoring with great regularity in his first season with the club. At 19 years of age, he is the youngest member of the team.

The ex-Wolfe Tone Wanderers man has bagged more than 20 goals this season and he could well add to the Premier Shield medal which he won earlier this year.

The 29-year-old midfielder played in the Sligo League before coming to Bray. He has already won a Premier Shield.

team. Another former Wolfe Tone Wanderers player, Des has two Bishop Cups and one Premier Shield to his credit.

With Gary Snow in such splendid form, the 27-yearold reserve goalkeeper has found it jhard to break into the team, but is a reliable performer. A butcher, Paul was previously with Fassaroe Celtic. He has won Bishop Cup and Premier Shield medals.

Kevin is the longest serving member of the club, having been with Little Bray since 1981. This is his second Wicklow Cup final appearance. One of the most respected players in the Wicklow League, the 32-year-old butcher has been outstanding in midfield this season. Known as ‘Flag’, Kevin’s previous honours include Giff Club, Bishop Cup and Premier Shield medals.

The 32-year-old midfielder joined the Darglesiders from Enniskerry Youth Club. He has already won three Bishop Cups, Jubilee Cup, Giff Cup and Premier Shield honours.

A 26-year-old teacher, Paul has been a driving force in midfield for the Bray men this season. The former Sugarloaf Rangers man scored a great hattrick in the first round against Newtown. He has a Premier Shield medal already tucked away, but will be hoping for more before the end of the season.

fixer. John joined Little Bray from Glenmalure FC and has two Bishop Cup and a Premier Shield medals.

Another member of the Bray Wanderers Youths, Danno has been a revelation since coming to the People’s Park. The 21-year-old barman has done an immense job in the Little Bray midfield this season. He has already won two Bishop Cup medals and one Premier Shield and should go on to win many more honours.

The 30-yearold storeman is another long-serving member of the Little Bray team. Having joined them from Vale View, Alan has two Bishop Cup medals in addition to Premier Shield and Giff Cup medals. The prolific striker was a member of the team which lost to Gorey Rangers in the 1987 Wicklow Cup final.

Danno Keating: Alan Connolly:

The 20-yearold student, who is in his third year with Little Bray, has played a big part in the team’s success this season. An attacking right back, Darren has two Bishop Cup medals and one Premier Shield medal to his credit. His previous club was Enniskerry Boys.

An expert penalty taker, the 21-year-old left back has been one of Little Bray’s most consistent players. A greenkeeper by trade, John got the crucial goal in the semi-final against Enniskerry.

Bray Wanderers Youths team and has two Bishop Cup medals and a Premier Shield medal to show for his efforts.

A big centre forward in the Niall Quinn mould, the 22-year-old hitel porter has caused endless problems for defenders this season. The former Newtown man has also collected two Bishop Cup medals and one Premier Shield but seems destined for even greater honours.

The 21-year-old painter joined the Darglesiders from Valeview and has already won Premier Shield and Bishop Cup medals. Billy has looked the part in midfield and who will forget his brilliant free-kick in the third round which helped to see off Arklow Town.

Sadly, Billy Treacy passed away at a very young age. Kieran ‘Tarzan’ O’Brien recalls Billy as being a wonderful player and covering every single blade of grass in the Carlisle Grounds on the day of the 1992 Wicklow Cup final.

‘I know I got man of the match for the four goals but Billy was outstanding,’ said ‘Tarzan’.

On this season’s form, Gary must be the best goalkeeper in the league. The 32-year-old bank manager has barely put a foot or hand wrong in this cup campaign. His honours since joining Little Bray from Civil Service include Bishop Cup and Premier Shield medals.
