ST MARY’S CHURCH

Coronavirus Measures: Masses in our churches remain suspended till further notice due to measures introduced by the healthcare authorities limiting attendance at public indoor gatherings.

The Archbishop of Dublin has announced that everyone is dispensed from the obligation to physically attend Sunday Mass while the present emergency persists. Weekday Mass is now broadcast by RTÉ NEWS NOW at 10.30 a.m.

Mass is also broadcast through EWTN, Radio Maria, channel which can be found in Saorview and Channel 210. Mass from Knock Shrine is brought each day at midday; Rosary at 7 p.m. and Mass at 7.30 p.m. on knockshrine/watch-live;

Mass is also broadcast by web-cam from St Mary’s Pro Cathedral Dublin;

St Mary’s and St Mochonog’s Church will be open for private prayer each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – please remember to adhere to social distancing requirements. While churches and houses of worship will be permitted to re-open in mid-July, further details are awaited from the Government.

Sacrament Cancellations: The 2020 schedule/timetable previously issued by the parish office as regards the celebration the Sacrament of First Confession, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation, is now cancelled and once the government deems it safe to have gatherings again, our parish priest, Fr Bernard

Kennedy, after appropriate consultation, will issue new dates for these celebrations.

In the meantime, those who are due to celebrate the Sacraments of First Confession, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation, are encouraged to continue their preparation.

Maintaining Contact With Our Parishioners: At this time there are many churches across various diocese that are broadcasting Masses through webcams and parish radios. The Enniskerry Parish website has been updated so that our parish community can tune in and engage in a Spiritual Communion – go to enniskerryparish.ie and click on the Daily Mass link on the home page.

On the parish website there is a Daily Reflection, a Pastoral Letter from Fr Bernard and Fr Hyacinth along with resources for families and prayers at home duringthistime.

Parishioners will be updated on developments every week via our weekly Parish Link Newsletter which will be available each Friday on the parish website. More resources will be added in the coming days and weeks including Mass resources and spiritual links for all.

Outreach: Two support groups have been set up by local volunteers to help people who are isolated due to the present crisis and need help with food shopping, prescription and medication collection.

Parishioners, who need assistance themselves or know of someone who does, are asked to call either of these numbers.

ALONE COVID-19 Support Line for Older People: ALONE – Supporting older people to age at home – has launched a national support line and additional supports for older people who have concerns or are facing difficulties relating to the outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Ireland. Professional staff will be available to answer queries and give advice and reassurance where necessary. The support line will be open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., by calling 0818 – 222 024, and hours may be extended to meet the demand.

ENNISKERRY HISTORY SOCIETY

Monthly meetings of the Enniskerry History Society, which meets the guidance of its president, John Callan, are scheduled to resume in October if permitted to do so. Further information about the Enniskerry History Society available from John Callan at 01 2867853.

In the meantime more of the articles in the Ireland’s Own magazine 1920-2020 Centenary Souvenir Edition, the fifth in the Birth of Nation series, edited by Seán Nolan and Shea Tomkins, are ‘The Michael Collins Papers’ in which Eoin Swithin Walsh takes a county by county look at the activities of Michael Collins during the War of Independence as documented in Irish Military Archives; ‘Ambush at Kilmichael – An iconic Republican victory’ recalls the largest ambush in the War of Independence near the village of Kilmichael between Dunmanway and Macroom in west Cork when 36 members local IRA volunteers killed 17 members of the RIC Auxiliary Division, led by General Tom Barry wjo masterminded this ambush, ‘The Capture of Ernie O’Malley’ by Eoin Swithin Walsh, ‘Terence Mac.

Swiney – Death on Hunger Strike’ by Tom O’Neill, and ‘Cinemas of Cork in 1920’ by Éamon Ó Buadhacháin who took a the films that were showing there at that time. ENNISKERRY LIBRARY

The library remains closed till further notice.

Books can be renewed online – late return fees have been suspended during the period of the library’s closure.

While the library is scheduled to re-open in June, strict protocols and social distancing will have to be observed by borrowers in additional to any conditions which will be announced in due course.

COMMUNITY CALL HELPLINE

As part of the Government response to the Covid-19 crisis,

Wicklow County Council has established Covid-19 Community Call Forum which works with State agencies and community and voluntary to provide supports or service to any vulnerable people who need them such as the collection of essential items like food, ‘meals on wheels’, household items, fuel or medicine(inlinewithguidance), and support for those who are experiencing social isolation or cocooning.
