Modern-day parable movie ‘Styx’ available to view online
10 String Symphony online
A SPECIAL performance by a group that had been due to play in the Courthouse Arts Centre in Tinahely has been released online.
10 String Symphony had been scheduled to perform at the Courthouse in May, as part of their Irish tour. However, the tour has been postponed until May 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Instead, Christian Sedelmyer and Rachel Baiman of 10
String Symphony recorded a special online concert that is now available to view on Music Network’s website.
These are musicians whose roots are firmly in the old-timey Americana tradition, but whose musical explorations take them fearlessly into the present and beyond, creating songs and sound worlds that are immediate and compelling.
Their prime inspiration is our world and how we live in it. Their engagement with life, with art, with nature, with global challenges, is delivered with stunning musicianship, wit, humour and warm communication. They are champions of change and though just two in number, their sound and impact is massively amplified by their use of technology and clever arrangements.

LUX Prize nominated film ‘Styx’ is being made available to view online via Mermaid Arts Centre, in partnership with access>CINEMA and 606 Distribution.
A screening ticket can be purchased at Mermaid.ie under ‘Mermaid Moments’. Mermaid will receive 10 per cent of the rental fee and viewers will be directly supporting their future film programme.
‘Styx’ depicts the transformation of a strong woman torn from her contented world during a sailing trip.
The film is a work of unrelenting intensity and technical brilliance as ER doctor Rike (Susanne Wolff) embarks on a one-woman solo sailing trip to Ascension Island in the Atlantic.
When Rike comes across a sinking ship of refugees, she is quickly torn out of her serene world and must make a momentous decision.
Aptly named after the mythological river that separates the living from the dead, ‘Styx’ is an astute modern-day parable of Western indifference in the face of marginalised suffering.
Carrying practically the entire film, Wolff is riveting as a woman pushed to her physical, psychological and moral limits.
