Quinn on fire for Lakeside u12s

A penalty and one of her ‘free-kick specials’ from Lakeside’s Emer Miley who would go on to play for the Wick low ladies and remains a major player for Valleymoun­t ladies helped her side to victory over Lucan United on what was a good weekend for the West Wicklow club this week in 2000.

The club scored 24 goals in all competitio­ns with a certain Louise Quinn grabbing three of those when the club’s under-12 side thumped Rivervalle­y B 13-1 in the first round of their cup competitio­n.

It was the Intermedia­te side’s away win against Lucan that was first up in the weekly report on the thriving soccer club’s activities.

‘Monday saw the Intermedia­te side travel to Lucan United, and turn in their best display so far with a top notch 6-1 win,’ it read. ‘The scorers for Lakeside, who led 3-1 at the break, were Maura Reid (2), Michelle Long, Julie Ann Power and a brace from Emer Miley who scored from a penalty, and one of her free-kick specials.

‘Lots of impressive performanc­es in this game, particular­ly the midfield quartet of Maura Reid, Michelle Long, Julie Ann Pender and Mary Miley. Marie Kavanagh and Emer Miley also excelled.

‘On Tuesday it was the turn of the under-12 team to travel to the first round of the cup tie with Rivervalle­y B which they won in a canter on a 13-1 scoreline. The scorers for Lakeside, who led 3-1 at half-time, were: Louise Quinn (3), Michelle Jones (3), Gemma O’Neill (3), and the rapidly improving Vivienne Quinn (2).

‘Although she did not figure on the scoresheet, Boutina Richardson set up most of the goals from her midfield position.

‘Immediatel­y after this game, the girls who did not get to play played a friendly match. Those to impress for Lakeside were Aisling Mahon, Katheryn Kavanagh, Helen Lynch and Eileen Gallagher.

‘On Wednesday the Intermedia­te team were at home to Aer Lingus B in their firstround cup clash and ran out comfortabl­e 5-0 winners.

‘Once again Emer Miley netted from a penalty and a free-kick special with Michelle Long, Julie Ann Pender and Emma Fitzsimons adding to the tally.

‘Susie Nolan replaced the unavailabl­e Gillian Kinsella up front, while the defence and midfield remained intact.

Players of the week: Eimear Quinn (Intermedia­te); Louise Quinn and Boutina Richardson (under-12).
