McDonald and Ó Tuama pick up top awards

SCHOOL life might have taken an enforced back seat in the Covid-19 emergency but that didn’t stop Coláiste Bhríde in Carnew from conducting their sports awards last week with hurler and football of the year awards and the teams of the year.

Tinahely and Wicklow under-20 start Cillian McDonald was revealed as the footballer of the year for 2020 while Naomh Eanna and Wexford Minor hurler Cian Ó Tuama was announced as the very deserving hurler of the year after some stunning performanc­es in the Coláiste Bhríde jersey.

McDonald was joint captain of the Coláiste Bhríde Carnew Senior football team and was also Kevin O’Brien’s selection as captain of the Wicklow under-20 footballer­s. The Tinahely footballer had helped Colaiste Bhríde to the Wicklow schools ‘A’ football final when they defeated Coláiste Chill Mhantáin after extra-time.

Cian Ó Tuama captained the school’s under-16 hurlers to South Leinster glory in Bunclody, scoring 1-8 in the final. The young Gorey teenager is highly praised for his exemplary attitude.
