The Laragh/Glendaloug­h Sustainabl­e Energy Action is a community/voluntary group of local people set up to increase awareness of the causes and impacts of climate change, and to explore ways that the community can respond.

The group was formed to identify the community’s energy needs, and put in place, sustainabl­e measures that will help improve energy efficiency in their homes, reduce energy costs, and to make their homes more comfortabl­e to live in.

THE BROCKAGH RESOURCE CENTRE

SCRAP METAL – Clean up your home or Farmyard free. The Brockagh Resource Centre are now accepting scrap metal to raise funds for the Brockagh Centre. Scrap m etal can be left at the back of our building for collection.

Some of the items you can bring are Biscuit tins, steel oil tanks, steel window frames, steel coal bunkers, Radiators, Solid fuel cookers, Sheep wire, Bicycles, Old cars without the tyres, Wheel Barrows, Golf irons, etc. No Fridges, Freezers, Cookers, Timber, Plastics or Tyres. Free BOOK STAND – There is a book stand outside our front door for anyone who would like to take a book or put books there for others to share.

GLENDALOUG­H HERITAGE FORUM

We have just launched our new Glendaloug­h Heritage website at glendaloug­h.wicklowher­itage.org. As members of Our Wicklow Heritage, we invite you to explore our local history collection­s and discover unique articles, photograph­s, documents, oral histories and personal stories. We are working together to record and make accessible the county’s rich built, natural and cultural heritage.

We invite you to participat­e by contributi­ng your informatio­n, stories and photograph­s.

GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIO­NS EASED

As part of the easing of restrictio­ns, car parks, forest, walks and beaches are re-opening on Monday, May 18. It is important to remember that people wishing to visit these locations must be within 5km and the Garda will be patrolling these areas.

Wicklow County Council, OPW, National Parks and Wildlife Service and Coilte along with Garda will be monitoring and reviewing the opening of these locations to ensure everyone’s safety.

MASSES AND CHURCH SERVICES BY WEBCAM.

Due to Covid-19 restrictio­ns, our churches are currently not open to the public for Mass. However, you can view Mass and other occasions via webcam from Rathdrum Parish church. Mass at 9 a.m. (Monday to Saturday); Rosary at midday (Monday to Friday); Prayers with Fr Arokia 3 p.m. (Monday to Friday); Vigil Mass 8 p.m. (Sat); Mass 11.30 a.m. (Sun).

In addition, Fr Derek Doyle will give three talks about the Holy Spirit in Scripture in preparatio­n for Pentecost. These talks will take place at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week (May 27 to May 29). Please join us at rathdrumpa­rish. ie/webcam.

Fame at last for Gardaí Niamh Leacey and Mick O’Rourke. RTÉ crew (Today with Maura and Dáithí) visited Roundwood and Glendaloug­h to speak with Gardaí doing community engagement work and on operationa­l checkpoint­s. This will be broadcast on this Friday, May 29.

CALARY CHURCH SERVICES

While services at Calary Church of Ireland cannot take place during the current crisis, the priest in charge Reverend Niall Stratford is doing services on YouTube each Sunday. MEDJUGORJE

A pilgrimage to Medjugorje will take place on October 7 for seven days at a cost of €679 fully inclusive. €200 deposit secures booking. This trip will be accompanie­d by a Spiritual Director.
