Local community heroes honoured

- By EIMEAR DODD

SOME of the volunteers working tirelessly in the community of Arklow were recently honoured by Arklow Credit Union.

The credit union recently ran a competition on their social media asking their followers to nominate a ‘Local Hero’ from Arklow.

These are the people who are working on the front lines in the local community. Followers of Arklow Credit Union’s social media pages were asked to name the person they felt deserved something special. A huge number of nominations were received and four winners were chosen. Each of the four winners received a €50 One4All voucher and visited Arklow Credit Union where they were presented with their prizes.

The winners were Hilary Sharpe, Julie Martin, Majella Myler and Julieann Hurley. These exceptional women have done amazing volunteer work in the community through projects including the local Meals on Wheels and the Arklow Community Action Resource Centre.

Arklow Credit Union would like to say a big thank you to the winners and to all those working in essential services from all the staff in the supermarkets, volunteers, healthcare and emergency service workers.

Arklow Credit Union remains open, but members are asked to visit their offices for essential purposes only. New measures in place include hand sanitiser in the banking hall, social distancing guidelines, screens at the counters and regular cleaning of counters, doors and offices with disinfectant detergent.
