Let’s all get behind Jackie’s call for support

-

THAT wonderful event that takes place in Tinahely every year where the name of Ellen Kinch is celebrated through a day of sport and fun and laughter will sadly not take place this year but together we can all ensure that Ellen is remembered and that Barretstown is supported if we get behind the Kinch family’s #challengethirtytwo adventure organised by Barretstown and launched by Jackie Kinch online last weekend.

‘I didn’t want to do another one of those challenges where you have to nominate people because people are probably sick of them every time they go on social media,’ said Jackie.

‘Originally, I said I was going to cycle 300km myself in a week and if people wanted to donate, they could donate and it would be up to them.

‘I shared that idea with Barretstown and they said that there was a 32-challenge coming up and you can get people involved in it if you want.

‘So, I said that’s what I would do and it would be a bit of craic, a bit of fun and they can do whatever they want once they do something with 32 in it.

‘They can donate if they want but there is no pressure on anyone, times are tough at the moment.

‘Obviously, the more people who donate the better,’ she said.

The event is a nationwide fundraising initiative (encompassing all 32 counties in Ireland) where participants are encouraged to do creative activities for 32 seconds, 3.2 minutes, 32 minutes, for 32 miles/kms, 320 kms etc. It is open to absolutely everyone and anything you can dream up that involves the numbers 32 is acceptable.

The Kinch family are undertaking their own challenge by attempting 320km in a week as a family.

Jackie says that she will attempt a fair chunk of the total on the bike while sister Michelle and parents, Clifford and Marcella, will boost the numbers through walking.

What can you the public do? You can get your thinking hats on and get creative with any videos 3.2minutes or exercise wise involving #challengethirtytwo, anything that can contribute to the cause and post videos/pictures to the link https://www.facebook. com/Ellen-Kinch-Memorial-Cup that can be found on the Ellen Kinch Memorial Cup Facebook page and from there you can donate through the www.justgiving. com/fundraising/EllenKinchMemorialCup2020 page.

‘We are always grateful for your continued support of keeping Ellen’s name alive,’ said Jackie Kinch.
