Deadline for observations on pontoon plans is set for July
SUBMISSIONS and observations over plans to install a floating pontoon at Wicklow Harbour will be accepted up until July 10.
The harbour is currently at capacity and the pontoon planned for South Quay will increase the mooring capacity in the harbour and river area
Small vessels and leisure crafts, including open boats, will be able to use the pontoon to increase mooring capacity in the harbour. There is currently a pontoon in each of the other three harbours in County Wicklow.
There are also congestion issues with the harbour, particularly during storms and when ships are in port.
The new pontoon will be supported by steel guides connected to the existing quay wall. The pontoons will be 2.4 metres wide, will be of robust construction and will be equipped with services provisions, mooring cleats, fendering, safety ladders and safety aids. The construction of the pontoons will be steel framed deck on concrete encased polystyrene floats.
A gangway will also be installed complete with hand railing, anti-slip rails and open grid decking.
Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed development can be submitted to Wicklow County Council before the deadline of 12 noon on July 10. They can be made in writing to the Administrative Officer, Planning, Development and Environment, Wicklow County Council, County Buildings, Wicklow Town.
