Heritage Week events

-

SOME of the events for Heritage Week 2020 in Arklow will not be going ahead due to Covid-19.

Organiser of many of the events in the Arklow area, Jennifer Kavanagh said that for the safety of all, she had taken the decision not to go ahead with any of the usual events this year.

‘Because of the situation [with] Covid-19 and the social distance that we must keep to as to be safe, so for that reason, I am taking measures not to go ahead with it,’ she said.

Many popular events have been called off due to coronavirus including the Tinahely Agricultural Show, Arklow’s Seabreeze Festival and the Bray Airshow.

Meanwhile, the Heritage Council recently announced plans for a modified National Heritage Week, taking into account ongoing restrictions on events and gatherings due to Covid-19.

Local heritage groups and organisers, families and communities are being invited to develop projects around this year’s theme of ‘Heritage and Education: Learning from our Heritage’ and to register these on www.heritageweek.ie
