Measures to kick-start the economy in Greystones

WICKLOW County Council and Greystones 2020 have launched a campaign to restart the local economy in Greystones Municipal District.

A range of resources have been introduced to support local businesses as Covid-19 restrictio­ns begin to ease.

Greystones 2020 have launched a new business hub at greystones.ie/business-hub. This includes details of financial supports, to assist businesses in the Greystones district to thrive again.

They have also establishe­d a local business

WhatsApp group for support and help when needed, a ‘Think Local, Buy Local’ campaign, and an invitation for all businesses to be on the website if not already listed. The council is providing ground markings in order to help businesses implement queuing measures to encourage social distancing. Businesses wishing to avail of them should contact greystones­md@ wicklowcoc­o.ie. The council has introduced a fast track licence applicatio­n procedure for usage of public space. All fees will be waived for a period of three months. Applicatio­n forms can be downloaded from Wicklow.ie and submitted online with a site location map attached to plandev@wicklowcoc­o.ie. Changes to parking and pedestrian facilities are also being introduced to support local business.

Cllr Tom Fortune, outgoing Cathaoirle­ach of Greystones Municipal District, welcomed the collaborat­ive approach of this community-based initiative to help address the challenges facing businesses as they emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic. Greystones District Manager, Michael Nicholson, encouraged everyone to support local businesses and to adhere to social distancing and hygiene protocols

Grainne McLoughlin, Chairperso­n of Greystones 2020, said: ‘We know that small businesses may find it particular­ly difficult to understand how to adapt and remain resilient in such a rapidly changing situation. We in Greystones 2020 are committed to supporting them in any way we can.’
