Charity run to help war-torn family
THE ‘Road to Roundwood’ group is holding a 5k run and walk to raise funds to support a refugee family to resettle in the community,
The ‘Road to Roundwood’ group is a 100 per cent voluntary group set up by local people with the goal of welcoming and helping to resettle a refugee family in the Roundwood community who are fleeing war in the Middle East.
They are part of ‘Community Sponsorship Ireland’, an initiative of the Department of Justice and Equality. It is part of the United Nations response to the Humanitarian Crisis which developed in Southern Europe due to mass forced displacement of people from conflict areas, particularly in the Middle East.
After an initial set-back due to Covid-19, the group are now back up and running again and have received the green-light for a socially distanced 5k run and walk taking place at the Vartry Reservoir on Saturday, July 25.
Individuals or groups of up to six friends and family members can take part by leaving every ten minutes from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The group has to raise €10,000 through fundraising activities and sponsorship. The money will then be used to support the family with various costs such as housing, startup needs such as house hold supplies and furnishings, clothing, transport, language training, translation, interpretation, employment preparation and job seeking, access to education, costs for physical, mental and/or dental health.
