Virtual song for frontline staff

-

CHAMBER Choir Cruinniú came together while staying apart to record a special version of a much-loved song to pay tribute to frontline workers and raise money for a worthwhile cause at the same time.

The Arklow-based women’s chamber choir, who have been unable to meet up for practices during the Covid-19 lockdown, decided to perform the traditional song ‘A Parting Glass’ remotely. The 16 members of the choir each recorded their parts separately at home and these were then combined together by choir member Genevieve Molloy and her brother Fabian.

The choir also put out a call on social media for photos of people working on the frontline and in essential services during the Covid-19 pandemic. They were overwhelmed with the response and received over 60 photos. These were used as part of a montage video which pays tribute to those working in hospitals, emergency services, pharmacies and other essential areas in Arklow, the Garden County and the eastern region. The video was launched on social media last Wednesday and has already received thousands of views. Members of Cruinniú also decided to use the video to raise funds for the Community Foundation of Ireland. Donations can be made www.heehee.ie.

The choir, which is under the direction of Rosarii Kinsella, is hoping to return to be able to get together for rehearsals and performances later in the year.
