Lacken-Kilbride hold first training at new grounds

- BRENDAN LAWRENCE

A fresh start was enjoyed by members of Lacken-Kilbride GAA Club on Monday evening last when the first training session was held in their new grounds in Kilbride after a difficult period of time without a home.

The club’s new carpark at the grounds is almost completed and when the project is finished there will a full-size adult pitch as well as the various dressing rooms and ammenties for club members for generations to come.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the ice cream that had been promised to the children had to wait for another day but there were some lollipops handed out.

A wonderful evening was enjoyed by all and the club is looking forward to a very bright future.

New first team manager Noel Kinsella has the Lacken-Kilbride footballers training in Meeks field on Tuesdays and Thursdays in preparation for the start of the Junior ‘B’ championship which is due to kick off in early July against Dunlavin.

It will be a welcome development no doubt when they can take their first steps into the new field and even better again when they can welcome other teams to the new grounds for matches in the years to come.

There was some bad news, however, with the news that the Ladies committee and players have decided to postpone playing for the year, due to the simple fact that the club no longer has access to a full-size pitch with changing facilities and toilets.

This will be a blow to ladies football but they will be back soon.
