AVONDALE

Our most recent club lotto draw took place on Tuesday, January 5. There was no jackpot winner! The numbers drawn were: 4, 13, 16, and 18. Congratulations to one match-three winner: Nora Byrne, PJ and Kayleigh c/o PJ Rowley.

Thanks for all your continued support. Next draw is scheduled for Tuesday, January 12, and the jackpot was €5,000.

Avondale GAA Club are delighted to announce that David Burke will be staying on as our Senior football manager for the 2021 season. This will be his third season in charge of the club. His backroom team will remain the same, with Maurice Leahy acting as the coach and Avondale clubmen Pat Baker and Brendan Ward taking up the positions as his selectors.

The management team will be looking to take the club one step further this season to that elusive county final after guiding them to back-to-back semi-finals in their previous two seasons at the helm. The club would like to wish the management team and all its players every success for the season ahead.

Avondale GAA Club are also delighted to announce that Ray Nolan has been appointed the Avondale Senior hurling manager for the 2021 season. Ray will be joined by selectors made up of Avondale clubmen Liam Phelan, Donal Browne and Bernard Byrne. All four men are true Avondale Gaels and have represented us honourably both on and off the field over the past number of years.

The hope is that this management team can be the spark that will ignite hurling within the club again and build a team than can bring Avondale back to a place where we are challenging for Senior championships in Hurling.

We would like to wish Ray and his

management team the very best of luck for the season ahead.

The Junior hurling and football management teams will be announced at a later date once confirmed!

One week left until our Last Man Standing Fundraiser kicks off.... €10 to enter.... The support so far has been fantastic but we hope we can get some more entries before the deadline next week.

ANNACURRA

Our Healthy Club Every Step Counts virtual challenge starts Wednesday, January 13, for seven weeks. It’s a great way for our members and the wider community to get active during the current level of restrictions. Any club that tracks more than 4,000km during the challenge will be entered into a prize draw for an O’Neill’s kit. Just follow the steps below: Download the free MyLife app from GooglePlay/App Store; Tap on the social tab on the MyLife app; Select challenges; Select ‘Leinster GAA’, then ‘Annacurra GAA’ and off you go! Challenge participants must be 18 or over. Best of luck and enjoy

CARNEW EMMETS

Following the latest instructions from Croke Park, the GAA grounds will remain open to allow people to use the walking track. However, no other activities are allowed until further notice. Normal social distancing rules must be observed

at all times.

To set 2021 off on the right foot, we have registered for the ‘Every Step Counts’ walking challenge as part of the GAA’s Healthy Clubs initiative.

As a club and community together, the challenge is to track a collective 4,000km over seven weeks (that’s roughly the distance around Ireland!) between January 13 and March 3. You can run, walk, jog, whatever it takes for us to accumulate or exceed the target distance. Clubs who cover this distance will be entered into a draw to win O’Neill’s vouchers at the end of the challenge.

The challenge is in support of club and community members getting active in January and February. And perhaps providing a welcome distraction from the news channels too! The lights for the walking track in the Sportsfield will be turned on until 9.15pm every evening.

To take part, you need to complete the following steps:

Download the ‘MyLife by Irish Life’ app from the app store; Register an account; Select ‘Challenges’; Select ‘Leinster Challenges’; Scroll down and select ‘Carnew Emmets’.
