Life goes on

- • NERIA BARR

It seems that we are not yet out of the woods, and the coronavirus is here to stay, for at least a while longer. But summer is here, and even if going out or traveling is not what it used to be, we can still try to enjoy ourselves. This week, try new ice cream flavors, cook an Italian meal at home, choose eco-friendly cosmetics and don’t forget to use a good sunscreen

An eye-opener

L’Oreal Paris introduces yet another excellent mascara – Bambi Eye. As the name suggests, the mascara instantly “opens” the eye, adding volume to the eye lashes and curling them lash by lash. Bambi Eye’s black velvety washable formula glides on smoothly for lifted, elongated lashes, without clumps. The unique Wide-Eyed Brush features short and long bristles to separate and coat every lash. NIS 75

Stick it in your pocket

If you listen to dermatologists (and you should), there is no such thing as too much protection from sun radiation, especially during our hot summers here in Israel. To help maintain protection even when spending long hours outside, Dr Fischer launched a new and very clever product – a sunscreen stick for the face. The small stick, offering SPF 50+, is easy to carry around in a purse or jean pocket, so you can renew every two hours. There is a clear one for adults and a melon-scented one for kids, and both are water proof and hypoallergenic. Don’t leave home without it. NIS 49.90

Correcting cream

For many years, dermatologists have been saying that sun-radiation damage done to our skin in our youth cannot be repaired later in life, and the results will show on the thinning skin as we grow older. But what if we can repair some of the damage immediately after being exposed to the sun?

HL Cosmetics, a local company that specializes in professional cosmetics containing active ingredients and formulas based on clinical researches, introduced recently a balancing gel in their Bio Repair line that contains ingredients which rehabilitate the skin’s texture after being exposed to the sun. Containing DNA correcting complex, the gel calms the skin and rehabilitates it, improving the texture and suppleness and promoting biochemical processes in the skin cells. NIS 220. Available only at licensed beauty centers.

Green Beauty

Garnier launches for the first time an organic facial beauty line called Garnier Bio, based on clean formulas, and containing vegan and organic ingredients that compile with Ecocert GreenLife regulations. Garnier Bio products are suitable for sensitive skin and have been dermatologically tested. Based on such ingredients as Argan oil, organic lavender and lemongrass, thyme oil and konjac root, Garnier Bio is also offered at very affordable prices: NIS 44.90 for hydrating cream, cleansing gel and micellar water; NIS 54.90 for anti-aging hydrating cream, antiaging eye cream and face oil; NIS 34.90 for nourishing spray and toner; and NIS 12.90 for the wonderful konjac sponge.

Calming the skin

Going on a hike during the hot summer may result in unpleasant skin irritations such as jock itch. To gently treat such common irritations, which occur among active and/or overweight people, Moraz Medical Herbs offers Redskin Polygonum cream. NIS 59.90 for 100 ml.

Based on the same Polygonum active ingredients, Moraz also offers Herbatopic with 75% active ingredients, for people suffering from chronic skin inflammations such as eczema. NIS 89.90

A small treat

If you can’t go to Turkey, it seems Turkey will come to you – well, at least Turkey’s leading sweets brand, ETI, which is sold, according to the company, in more than 50 countries around the world. With a wide selection of chocolate treats, the best thing is that most of the treats sold in family packs are individually packed. This way, you can sneak one small treat into your bag in case you get a craving for something sweet in the middle of the day but do not wish to eat a whole chocolate bar. In the family packs of 10 we liked the chocolate-covered peanuts, coconut and caramel (NIS 9.90), mini chocolate cakes (NIS 9.90), and chocolate-covered peanut, nougat and caramel snack (NIS 9.90). There are also waffles and chocolates.

Go Italian

It is always a good time for a glass of Chianti, especially when having spaghetti or pizza. Shaked is now importing a kosher Chianti from Tuscany’s Villa San Giovanni Winery in a traditional bottle with a straw basket. Add a checkered tablecloth and some antipasti – and success is guaranteed. NIS 65

Light and breezy

L’Oréal Paris knows exactly what we need in the summer – hydration, but the kind that does not add to the heat. Introducing a new line of light hydrating cream, the new Hydra Genius’s formula is based on aloe vera water and hyaluronic acid to help achieve a fresh and glowing look even during the exhausting hot days. The brand promises up to 72 hours of hydration.

Hydra Genius is offered for three skin types – regular-mixed (green), regular-dry (blue) and dry and sensitive (pink). The formula is very light and absorbs quickly. NIS 59.90. For a limited time, the hydrating gels are offered at NIS 49.90.

Chillaxing new ice cream

If there is anything we learned during the lockdown, it is that there’s something for almost everyone to watch on Netflix. The fact that there are flavors for everyone to enjoy from Ben & Jerry’s was already known to all those who have unsuccessfully tried to stay clear of too much sugar. Now, that the two brands joined to create a new peanut butter ice cream with sweet and salty pretzel swirls and fudge brownies, it will be very hard not to get hooked.

The new Netflix & Chilll’d flavor is certain to satisfy any sweet or salty snack craving. Grab your spoons. Two version of the new flavor will be marketed in Israel – cream and vegan, based on almond milk. Yummy. NIS 25.90-NIS 29.90. www.benjerry.co.il

Dinner for two

Hard times call for novel ideas, and this is what the Galil Mountain Winery just did. The winery joined hands with the Pasta Basta chain of stores, and together they are offering pampering fresh pasta kits to make at home. You can choose from different fresh pastas, as well as ravioli or gnocchi. Add freshly-made sauces, such as pesto, four cheeses or arabiatta. Or add Parmesan cheese or Roman artichokes and a 375 ml. bottle of Galil Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon for a perfect dinner for two. From NIS 81. You can pick up the kit or have it delivered by calling 1-700-555-560, or by ordering online at pastabasta.co.il.

Rich in protein

Tusso launches new products, this time savory ones. The new crunchy savory snack made from green peas comes in four flavors: zaatar, natural, piquant and with salt and pepper, and contains 65% peas. The product is also vegan, has five grams of protein per bag and is only 105 calories. My kind of snack. NIS 3.90. Available in supermarkets.
