LITTLE BLACK DRESS
By English on Stage Habima, November 22
Little Black Dress aka LBD is as much a statement about womanhood as it is a performance. As a performance it’s assured, professional, lively and a vocal treat. As a statement, we’re talking affirmation and confidence about what a woman is and does, not forgetting self-awareness and a necessary irony.
LBD is a medley of popular songs – solos, duets, trios and quartets – sung by Shir Zelinger, Tami Machnai, who also plays piano, Noeat Kedem and Tamar Bettelheim. They sing very, very well, their diction is mostly excellent, and, boy, do they ever know how to deliver a song. English on Stage founder and LBD director Meirav Zur is the troupe’s comedienne and her contribution is three very deft skits that both make fun of and recognize women. There’s one about multi-tasking that’s a total hoot!
And the lbd itself? Each performer wears one – the designer is Efrat Besandilov – that expresses her personality. As the program says, there’s always a perfect lbd out there for someone, and the LBD is no slouch either. Even if you don’t possess an lbd (I don’t), you can
thoroughly enjoy LBD (I did). Little Black Dress will be performed tonight at 8 p.m. and March 20 (8:30 p.m.) at Habima Theater, Tel Aviv. For tickets: englishonstage.co.il.
