1. Weizmann Institute
Last Wednesday at the Tel Aviv Hilton, the Friends of the Weizmann Institute held their annual gala event. The hosts of the event were Friends chairman Shimshon Harel, and owner and CEO of America-Israel, Yael Goren-Wegman. Speak- ing at the event were Dr. Eran Elinav from the Department of Immunology at Weizmann and Amos Nahum, the award-winning Israeli-American nature photographer. Attending the event were: Professor Daniel Zajfman president of Weizmann; Orna and Ido Nehushtan; Prof. Amnon and Anat Shashua.
2. BIRD Foundation
The Israel-United States Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation held its annual gala event this past Wednesday at the home of US Ambassador Dan Shapiro in Herzliya Pituah. Attending the event were Dr. Eitan Yudilevich, executive director of the BIRD Foundation; Avi Hasson, head of the Israel Innovation Authority and chief scientist at the Ministry of Economy and Industry; US State Department official Jonathan Margolis; Martin Gerstel, founder of Compugen and Evogene; Eyal Waldman, president and CEO of Mellanox and his wife, Jeanne Ben Aharon; Ofer Haviv, CEO of Evogene; and high-tech entrepreneur Yossi Vardi.
3. Tel Aviv Museum
A new exhibition recently opened at the Tel Aviv Museum, featuring works by Mark Yashaev, winner of the 2016 Lauren and Mitchell Presser Photography Award for a Young Israeli Artist. The award offers the winner a $5,000 cash award, plus a solo exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum. The contest was judged by the museum’s director and chief curator Susan Landau; Walter Moser, head of the photography department at the Albertina Museum in Vienna, Austria; and Christopher Phillips, curator at the International Center of Photography in New York.
4. Agmon Market
Businessman Chaim Ohayon, owner of a new Galilion tourist complex located on Road 90 near the Hula Nature Reserve, and Chef Aviv Moshe, hosted a special opening event for the Agmon Market, the largest food market in northern Israel. The market is situated inside the Galilion complex, and offers a variety of restaurants and stalls that will be opening in the coming months under the culinary direction of Moshe. Guests at the event were treated to an elegant dinner prepared by Moshe.
5. Beilinson Hospital
An impressive lineup of senior business leaders attended the Beilinson Hospital (Rabin Medical Center) annual gala which took place at the Tel Aviv Hilton. Dr. Pninit and Pini Cohen were honored by the hospital at the event where NIS 12 million was raised. In addition to serving as chairman of Keren Noy and America Israel, Pini has chaired the hospital’s association of friends for twelve years. Beilinson Director Dr. Eran Halperin, Clalit Director-General Eli Defes, and executive director of the Friends of Rabin Medical Center, Orli Meskin, spoke about Pini’s accomplished work for the hospital. Among the attendees were Lev Leviev, Dudi Weissman, Dana Azrieli and Haim Horowitz.
