In United rout; Leicester wins at Everton
Former England manager Sam Allardyce is still waiting for his first win since taking charge of Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace after his side drew 0-0 at Bolton Wanderers where he spent eight years in charge.
In a battle between two managers named by relegation-threatened Premier League clubs this week, Marco Silva began his tenure at bottom side Hull City with a 2-0 victory over Swansea City for whom Paul Clement picked the side for the first time.
Two former Cup winners, Sunderland and Southampton, require replays after draws on Saturday. Sunderland was held 0-0 by Premier League rivals Burnley while Southampton was frustrated when Norwich City equalized in stoppage time for a 2-2 draw.
Olivier Giroud’s scoring streak continued as he struck late to give Arsenal a 2-1 victory at Championship side Preston North End in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
Giroud’s deflected finish in the 89th minute was rough on Preston who had dominated the opening period after Callum Robinson had given it an early lead.
Arsenal was a different proposition after the break and equalized a minute after the restart when Ramsey fired home from the edge of the area after Alex Iwobi’s layoff.
The hosts looked capable of holding out for a replay but Giroud struck for the fourth match in a row when he capitalized on a clever back heel by Lucas Perez.
Preston was left to rue missed chances before the break, the best of which saw Jordan Hugill somehow fail to connect with a Robinson cross with the goal gaping.
Robinson also had a goal ruled out for an infringement. Premier League leaders Chelsea will hope to bounce back from its midweek defeat by Tottenham Hotspur when it hotsts third-tier Peterborough on Sunday.
