Soldier wounded in overnight Jenin raid
A soldier was lightly wounded during a clash with Palestinian residents in the Jenin refugee camp, who threw pipe bombs and firebombs during an arrest raid early Thursday morning, the army said.
According to Palestinian media, two suspected Hamas members, Muhammad and Ahmed As’ad Abu Khalifa, were arrested by soldiers during the raid.
Several other operations were carried out throughout the West Bank, including a large-scale raid carried out by the IDF, Border Police and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) on a weapons workshop in the West Bank city of Hebron.
Eight lathes used for manufacturing weapons were dismantled and seized.
“This operation represents just one of many operations being conducted in the Judea region each night to seize illegal workshops and weapons,” the army said.
Nine wanted Palestinians were also arrested overnight by the Border Police and Shin Bet, including six who were wanted over suspected involvement in terrorism.
Another Palestinian was arrested in Hashemiya village north of Jenin suspected of being a member of Hamas, the army said.
According to the army, the IDF also collected evidence from the home of a Palestinian man who opened fire with a homemade Karl Gustav submachine gun on an army outpost in the village of Aboud, northwest of Ramallah, earlier Wednesday.
Security forces believe that most of the shooting attacks in the West Bank and inside Israel were carried out with weapons produced in the West Bank. They have stepped up their efforts to uncover underground weapons workshops, carrying out near-nightly raids in the West Bank, shutting down weapons factories and confiscating arms.
