Panthers top Blues, Coyotes edge Ducks

-

Vincent Trocheck scored with 4.6 seconds left in the third period to give the Florida Panthers a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Monday night.

The Panthers completed a 5-0-0 road trip for the first time in franchise history and won for the eighth time in nine games.

Trocheck scored his 21st goal of the season through traffic in front of the St. Louis net. It appeared goalie Jake Allen never saw the shot as he did not move to attempt to block the high shot.

The Blues had tied the score at 1 on a goal by Kyle Brodziak 2:54 into the third period. Jonathan Marchessault scored for Florida at 10:40 of the first period.

In other NHL action, a few hours after trading defenseman Michael Stone to Calgary, the Arizona Coyotes jumped all over the Anaheim Ducks, scoring three-first period goals and hanging on for a 3-2 win.

Christian Dvorak, Jakob Chychrun and Radim Vrbata scored for the Coyotes, who improved to 8-4-1 in their last 13 games. Ryan Getzlaf had a pair of goals for Anaheim, including one on a slap shot through traffic with 26.8 seconds left with the goalie pulled. Coyotes goalie Mike Smith made 27 saves, but left the game with 15:31 left in the third period after he appeared to take a shot to the head from Anaheim’s Jakob Silfverberg that knocked Smith’s mask off about a minute and a half earlier. There was no immediate word on Smith’s condition.

Rookie Marek Langhamer (six saves) replaced Smith, marking his first NHL action. Langhamer stopped defenseman Sami Vatanen on a rebound chance as the clock expired.
