Westbrook ties Big O with 41st triple-double

Russell Westbrook tied Oscar Robertson’s record for most triple-doubles in a season with his 41st in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 110-79 home victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night.

Westbrook equaled the standard set by Robertson in the 1961-62 season by totaling 12 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists. He had a chance break the record on Wednesday night in Memphis after playing only 27 minutes against Milwaukee.

In other NBA action, Klay Thompson scored 41 points as the Golden State Warriors lowered their magic number for clinching the best regular-season record in the NBA to two with a 121-107 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolv­es.

Thompson had 14 of his 41 points in the second quarter and teamed with backcourt mate Stephen Curry for 23 more in the third as the Warriors, who trailed 37-35 in the second minute of the second period, gradually pulled away. Curry scored 19 points.

Also, LeBron James continued his career year for triple-doubles and helped put the Cleveland Cavaliers back into first place in the Eastern Conference with a 122-102 victory over the Orlando Magic

Cleveland was tied for first with the Celtics as the teams met on Wednesday night in Boston. James registered 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists in 37 minutes for his 12th triple-double this season. He also had a triple-double (with 41 points) Sunday.

Meanwhile, Kawhi Leonard scored 32 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and took charge of the game at the free-throw line in the final seconds to help lift the San Antonio Spurs to a 95-89 overtime conquest of the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Spurs reached 60 wins for the second straight season and seventh time in franchise history. It is third best all time in the NBA history, behind Boston (13) and the Los Angeles/ Minneapoli­s Lakers (11)
