1. Sabra foal
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan recently posted the following on Facebook: “Samson. This is the name I’ve given to the new foal that was born at the amazing and exciting Hodayot Youth Village, which is run in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Education. Just this morning, I inaugurated the new stable at Hodayot, where the locally born sabra horses will grow up and replace the imported horses.”
2. Festive bar mitzva
Idan Chaitchik, the son of real estate magnate Uri Chaitchik and his wife Tal, and the grandson of shipping tycoon and car importer Rami Ungar and his wife Yael, celebrated his bar mitzva this past Thursday. The festive celebration took place at Ronit Farm in the Sharon Region. Among the participants were New York art collector Jose Mugrabi; Beny and Agnes Steinmetz; Alfred and Chava Akirov; Israel and Tsipi Pearl; Michal and David Forer; and Noam and Tali Lanir.
3. Israeli wine
Tempo board chairman Jack Bar and CEO of Barkan Wine cellars Gilles Assouline recently hosted Slovakian President Andrei Kiske and took him on a tour of the Barkan winery at Kibbutz Hulda to introduce him to the world of Israeli wines. Kiske, who is a known wine enthusiast, apparently enjoyed his visit and the wine tasting tremendously.
4. Loewenstein Hospital
Members of the Friends of Loewenstein Hospital Association gathered last week for a fundraising event to raise money for renovations of the hospital’s main wing, which are currently underway. NIS 1 million was raised at the event, which took place at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center and included a festive reception and performance by singer Yehuda Poliker. Attending the event were Prof. Amiram Catz, director of Loewenstein Hospital; Erez Meltzer, chairman of the Friends Association; Shula Malik, director of the Friends Association; Orit and Yossi Bachar, Africa-Israel Industries and Negev group CEO Yaki Vadmani; Micha Geiger; Israel and Ilana Trau; and Herzliya Mayor Moshe Fadlon.
5. Madison Square Garden
A unique, festive performance was held with Shlomo Artzi last Wednesday at Madison Square Gar- den in New York City. In his warm welcome, Israel Consul General in New York Dani Dayan spoke of his love for Artzi and his music, especially the song “Tirkod.” Dayan told the crowd how when his daughter was a baby, she would only go to sleep if he played the Israeli musical legend’s song. An hour into the show, Artzi began singing “Tirkod “and asked Dayan join him on stage, where the diplomat danced to the song.
