Yankees’ rookie phenom Judge continues to rule with iron bat

Aaron Judge hit his majorleagu­e-leading 13th home run and scored the tying run in the seventh inning as the New York Yankees rallied from an early four-run deficit and posted an 8-6 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.

Judge, names the AL Rookie of the Month on Wednesday, had his first career three-hit game – with a single in the first, a two-run homer in the third and a single in the seventh, when the Yankees scored three times off Joe Biagini (0-1).

Matt Holliday also hit a three-run homer as New York won for the 16th time in 21 games. Four relievers combined on five scoreless innings, with Dellin Betances (3-1) recording four outs for the victory and Aroldis Chapman posting his sixth save.

Steve Pearce hit a three-run homer and Justin Smoak added an RBI single off CC Sabathia in the first inning. The Blue Jays scored their other runs on a bases-loaded walk by Russell Martin and a groundout by Kendrys Morales.

Mets 16, Braves 5

Jose Reyes had two hits and five RBIs to spark New York’s 20-hit attack in a rout of visiting Atlanta.

Every player in New York’s starting lineup had a hit and seven players had multiple hits, with left fielder Michael Conforto, catcher Rene Rivera and first baseman T.J. Rivera each picking up three.

Reyes was 2-for-4 with a double and matched his career high with five RBIs, which he last accomplish­ed in 2003. The 16 runs set a season best and the 20 hits matched a season high for the Mets.

Red Sox 4, Orioles 2

Josh Rutledge drove in two runs and Drew Pomeranz tossed 51/3 innings as Boston defeated Baltimore.

Chris Young and Dustin Pedroia each had an RBI for Boston, which has taken two of the first three contests in the four-game series. Pedroia was 1-for-3, moving into a tie with Harry Hooper for eighth on Boston’s all-time hits list, with 1,707.

Pomeranz (3-1) allowed five hits and walked two while striking out seven. Craig Kimbrel struck out the side to notch his American League-leading 10th save in the ninth.

Cubs 5, Phillies 4

Willson Contreras’ two-out pinch-hit double keyed a fourrun sixth inning as Chicago claimed a come-from-behind victory over Philadelph­ia.

Contreras laced a 1-1 pitch from left-handed reliever Joely Rodriguez into the left-field corner to drive home Ben Zobrist and Jason Heyward with the tying and go-ahead runs. The Cubs’ Jake Arrieta (4-1) earned his second victory in three starts.

Wade Davis, the fourth Chicago pitcher, faced four batters in a scoreless ninth for his seventh save. The Phillies’ Jerad Eickhoff (0-3) took the loss, sailing through five innings before getting into trouble.

Nationals 2, D’backs 1

Ryan Zimmerman broke a tie with an RBI double in the sixth inning as Washington defeated Arizona, spoiling a strong start by Robbie Ray.

Zimmerman lined a double to center off Ray to score Bryce Harper and give Washington a 2-1 lead. Zimmerman was 2-for-3, giving him a 10-game hitting streak, at least two hits for the sixth game in a row and a .427 average this season.

The winning pitcher was Jacob Turner (1-0), who came on in the sixth and allowed two hits in four scoreless innings. The loser was Ray (2-2), who struck out 10 and yielded two runs and four hits.

Giants 4, Dodgers 1 (11)

Gorkys Hernandez drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the 11th inning, and San Francisco earned a victory over host Los Angeles.

Hunter Pence and Buster Posey both went 2-for-5 with an RBI as the Giants took two of three from the Dodgers.
