More than 100 golfers took part in the annual Volvo Tournament at Caesarea Golf Club on May 18 under warm and breezy conditions.

David Assayag was crowned Gold Division Champion with a score of 43 Stableford points. With the convincing victory, he won the right to represent Israel in the international 2018 Volvo Challenge Tournament. Amiram Zoutkran and Yoav Shenhav were tied six points back, with Zoutkram claiming second place on the count-back.

Yosi Sayag took top honors in the Silver Division with 36 points, followed closely by Shlomo Ivgi and Chanah Brazg with 35 points each. Brazg took second place on the count-back.

In the special competitions, Valery Yehoshua’s ball ended up closest to the pin on No. 17, and Meir Assayag took similar honors on the ninth hole. Eden Bichachi and Amiram Zoutkran were the big hitters of the day, winning the women’s and men’s long drive titles on No. 3.

The tournament was an excellent dress rehearsal for the 20th Maccabiah Games golf competition, to be played from July 4 through July 13. Caesarea will host more than 250 golfers from 18 countries who will compete in various divisions.

Meanwhile, at Ga’ash Golf Club, this week’s Ladies’ Invitationonal, sponsored by CLC Opticians Ra’anana, was a great success. Nearly 50 players participated in the three-person-team Texas Scramble, with each trio made up of two men and a woman.

First place went to Gary Vandermolen and Isaac and Linda Zaidman, while in second place was the group of Steven Cohen, Bradley Ellerine and Droit Levy.

Nearest-to-the-pin prizes for men went to Dudu Tor, and for woman to Norma Kaufman. Gary Vandermolen had the men’s longest drive, with Dorit Levy taking home the ladies’ honors.

Also, last week at Ga’ash, Dudu Aharoni scored a hole-inone on the par-3 No. 4 hole, playing at 119 meters.
