Ryon Healy recorded his third career multi-homer game – all coming this month – and powered the Oakland A’s to victory against the slumping New York Yankees.

Matt Joyce led off the first inning with a home run and went 3-for-3 with a double, two walks and two runs scored for Oakland. Austin Romine and Brett Gardner drove in runs for New York, which has lost a season-high five straight.

Astros 7, Red Sox 1

David Paulino produced the best start of his young career and was backed by an aggressive offense in Houston’s victory over Boston.

Paulino (1-0) posted his first career victory by working a career-long six innings, allowing three hits and one run with four strikeouts. The lone blemish came in the fifth inning when Boston designated hitter and Houston native Chris Young cranked a leadoff home run to left field.

George Springer, Jose Altuve and Carlos Beltran had multi-hit games for the Astros, with Springer and Altuve each finishing 2-for-4. Altuve scored twice and added two RBIs, and Beltran homered, doubled and had three RBIs.

Pirates 4, Cubs 3

Andrew McCutchen’s 12th home run powered Pittsburgh past Chicago.

McCutchen belted a solo shot to left field that extended his hitting streak to eight games and pushed the Pirates’ lead to 4-2 in the sixth. Pittsburgh’s Ivan Nova (7-4) struck out Jon Jay to finish his outing and strand Jason Heyward at third base. He allowed three earned runs and six hits in seven innings.

The Cubs’ Jake Arrieta (6-5) was pulled after throwing two wild pitches and hitting David Freese to load the bases. He allowed three runs (two earned) and four hits with seven strikeouts in 42/3 innings.

Nationals 7, Mets 4

Trea Turner homered on the second pitch of the game for Washington, which blasted two more round-trippers on its way to a victory over New York.

The Nationals have yet to trail in winning the first three contests of the fourgame series against the Mets, who trail the first-place Nationals by 11½ games in the National League East.

Jose Lobaton homered in the second inning and scored on an error in the fourth for Washington. Daniel Murphy finished 2-for-4 with an RBI double and scored on Adam Lind’s pivotal two-run homer into the upper deck in the eighth for the Nationals.

Angels 9, Royals 0

Alex Meyer pitched six shutout innings and Cameron Maybin hit a leadoff home run and stole his league-leading 21st base of the season as Los Angeles snapped Kansas City’s six-game winning streak.

Meyer (3-3) allowed two soft singles and one precautionary walk, striking out nine and working out of a jam not of his making in the sixth inning. He snapped a string of four straight games in which the Royals had 10 or more hits, hitting .350 with 25 runs in that span.

Dodgers 10, Reds 2

Yasiel Puig homered twice, Cody Bellinger hit a two-run blast and Joc Pederson added a solo shot, lifting Los Angeles over Cincinnati.

Bellinger’s homer was his National-League leading 19th in 49 games.

Orioles 15, Cardinals 7

Jonathan Schoop tied a career high with four hits, including two of Baltimore’s five home runs in its victory over St. Louis.

Adam Jones and Mark Trumbo hit backto-back homers in the first inning and Manny Machado added a solo shot off starter Adam Wainwright (7-5).

Baltimore scored nine of its runs off Wainwright, who lasted only 12/3 innings – the shortest start of his 12-year career.

White Sox 5, Blue Jays 2

Chicago has found a home away from home and it is named the Rogers Centre, where it continued its mastery over Toronto by using solo home runs from Todd Frazier, Matt Davidson and Jose Abreu to support Mike Pelfrey’s six effective innings.

It was the sixth straight victory for the White Sox in Toronto. It was also their ninth victory in their past 10 meetings with the Blue Jays.

Pelfrey (3-5) allowed one run and four hits and while striking out five to earn his first win since May 26. (Reuters)
