IS­RAEL GOLDEN IN LACROSSE

The Is­rael na­tional team claimed the gold medal at the Euro­pean box lacrosse Cham­pi­onships on Satur­day, de­feat­ing the Czech Re­pub­lic 8-7 in the fi­nal in Turku, Fin­land. Both teams en­tered the fi­nal un­de­feated and the first half ended tied at 5-5. There was still noth­ing to sep­a­rate the teams with five min­utes to play, but Kyle Bergman would com­plete his hat-trick and give Is­rael the win with just over four min­utes re­main­ing. Is­rael’s suc­cess comes on the back of the sil­ver medal won by the men’s na­tional team at last year’s Euro­pean Cham­pi­onships. Over 2,000 Is­raeli chil­dren cur­rently play Lacrosse and Is­rael was an­nounced ear­lier this year as the host of the 2018 FIL Men’s World Lacrosse Cham­pi­onships. The event is set to take place in Ne­tanya over 10 days next sum­mer and in­clude over 2,000 ath­letes from some 50 coun­tries.
