Pinch hitter Tyler Flowers hit a tworun homer with two outs in the eighth inning leading Atlanta to a 5-3 win as Atlanta ended Los Angeles’ nine-game winning streak.
After rookie Johan Camargo coaxed a walk, Flowers connected on the first pitch from reliever Pedro Baez (3-2) for his ninth home run. It was the first pinch-hit homer for Flowers and broke the Braves’ six-game losing streak.
The loss broke a major-league-record, 53-game streak in which Los Angeles had won when leading at any point. Rex Brothers (2-2) worked 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Angels 7, Phillies 0
Mike Trout hit his 20th home run of the season, leading Los Angeles over Philadelphia and logging another achievement in his still young career.
Trout’s long ball, a two-run blast to center field, gave him six consecutive seasons of at least 20 homers before his age-26 season. He is one of four American League players to do so, joining Alex Rodriguez, Tony Conigliaro and Mickey Mantle.
The Angels scored all seven runs in the third inning – five of them via three home runs. C.J. Cron belted a two-run shot, and Kaleb Cowart added a solo blast.
Mets 10, Rockies 5
Curtis Granderson belted a go-ahead three-run homer to highlight a six-run sixth inning as New York scored the final 10 runs to stun Colorado.
Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood (6-12) began with three perfect innings before the Mets scored twice in the fourth, added two in the fifth and six in the sixth. Chatwood allowed a career high-tying eight runs (seven earned) in 5 1/3 innings.
Chasen Bradford (1-0) retired the six batters he faced and was awarded his first major league victory in his sixth career appearance. New York’s Jay Bruce belted a solo home run, his 29th long ball of the season.
Tigers 2, Yankees 0
Jordan Zimmermann pitched seven effective innings as Detroit withstood rain delays totaling 4 hours, 37 minutes to defeat New York.
Justin Upton celebrated the 10-year anniversary of his major league debut with an RBI double five pitches into the game against Masahiro Tanaka (8-10). The Tigers added a fourth-inning run on an error by Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury.
Zimmermann (7-8) held New York to six hits. He struck out six and did not issue a walk for the third time in four starts. The delays were 1 hour, 26 minutes at the start and 3:11 after the seventh inning.
Cardinals 5, Brewers 4
Yadier Molina had three hits, including two home runs, and Luke Weaver struck out eight as St. Louis defeated Milwaukee.
Weaver (1-1), making his second start in place of injured Adam Wainwright, worked 6 1/3 innings and held the Brewers to two runs, five hits and two walks.
Brent Suter (2-2) was charged with five runs, eight hits and a walk while striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings. Eric Thames hit his 25th home run of the season for Milwaukee.
Orioles 6, Royals 0
Jeremy Hellickson made his Baltimore debut in style with seven shutout innings, and Caleb Joseph hit a two-run homer as the Orioles won their fifth consecutive game.
Hellickson (1-0), acquired from Philadelphia in a Friday trade, left to a standing ovation after the top of the seventh. The right-hander scattered five hits and struck out three.
Mychal Givens (eighth) and Darren O’Day (ninth) pitched the final two innings for Baltimore. Royals starter Jason Vargas (13-5) allowed three runs and four hits in five innings, throwing 96 pitches.
Diamondbacks 3, Cubs 0
Zack Godley gave up three hits over six shutout innings as Arizona defeated Chicago.
Godley (5-4) walked two and struck out five in a 96-pitch outing. The Diamondbacks’ Jake Lamb drove in all three runs, going 2-for-4 with two doubles.
The Cubs’ Jake Arrieta (10-8) gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits in seven innings. He struck out eight and walked a pair. It was the first shutout loss for Chicago since a 5-0 defeat at Cincinnati on June 30.
Marlins 7, Nationals 0
Vance Worley pitched seven scoreless innings for his first win of the year, and Christian Yelich and Derek Dietrich hit two-run homers to lead Miami over Washington.
Dee Gordon was the catalyst for the Marlins’ offense. He went 3-for-4 with a triple, a walk, two steals, three runs and one RBI. He raised his batting average to .300 and extended his hitting streak to 13 games, tying his career high.
Worley (1-2) allowed two singles and no walks, striking out three and facing the minimum in winning for the first time since May 12, 2016. Yelich, who has 13 homers this season, finished with three RBIs. Dietrich hit his sixth home run.
Rangers 5, Mariners 1
Elvis Andrus, Delino DeShields and Joey Gallo hit home runs as Texas ended Seattle’s four-game winning streak.
DeShields set the tone by hitting his second leadoff homer of the year in the bottom of the first inning to tie the score at 1. The Rangers took a 2-1 lead against Ariel Miranda (7-5) in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly from Adrian Beltre.
Gallo connected on a solo shot in the fifth to push the Texas lead to 3-1. The homer, his third in two games, seventh in the past 11 and team-high 28th of the season, cleared the grass in center field and landed near a picnic table where fans were sitting.
Reds 5, Pirates 2
Jesse Winker hit his second career homer, going deep for the second night in a row, and his tiebreaking shot in the seventh lifted Cincinnati past Pittsburgh.
The Reds, who have won three straight, improved to 8-1 against the Pirates. Winker’s solo shot, to right with one out, came off reliever Joaquin Benoit (1-5), who made his Pittsburgh debut after coming over from Philadelphia on Monday in a trade.
Adam Duvall’s two-run, two-out homer in the ninth, off Pirates closer Felipe Rivero, sealed it. Cincinnati reliever Michael Lorenzen (6-2) pitched 1 1/3 innings for the win, and Raisel Iglesias picked up his 18th save.
