Marlins’ Stanton homers in 6th straight game

Yankees edge Mets for second consecutiv­e contest * Dodgers move to 50 games over .500

Giancarlo Stanton homered for the sixth consecutiv­e game, but the Miami Marlins blew a seventh-inning lead and lost 9-4 to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night in Florida.

Stanton leads the majors with 44 homers. He has gone deep 11 times in his past 12 games and 23 times in 35 contests. He is on pace to hit 60 homers this year, a milestone reached by only five players in major league history.

The Giants took advantage of a poor night by the Marlins’ bullpen, especially Junichi Tazawa (2-3), who did not register an out in the seventh inning, allowing four hits and three runs. Denard Span went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs and two RBIs for San Francisco.

Yankees 5, Mets 4

Sonny Gray pitched effectivel­y into the seventh inning in his home debut, and the Yankees hit a pair of homers off Jacob deGrom before holding off the Mets.

The Yankees won despite Aroldis Chapman wobbling to the finish. The closer allowed a two-run homer by rookie Amed Rosario with one out in the ninth but preserved Gray’s first win for the Yankees and notched his 16th save.

Gray (7-7) took a shutout into the seventh before giving up rookie Dominic Smith’s first career home run, a two-run shot. He allowed two runs and five hits in six-plus innings before exiting to a nice hand from the crowd.

Dodgers 6, White Sox 1

Joc Pederson was hit in the leg by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to force in the go-ahead run as Los Angeles Dodgers continued its winning ways by beating Chicago.

Pinch hitter Austin Barnes and Corey Seager added two-run singles as the Dodgers (84-34), who own the best record in baseball, moved 50 games above .500 for the first time since 1953. LA starter Alex Wood yielded six hits and one run while striking out six in seven innings.

Chicago’s Tim Anderson homered on the first pitch, giving him four home runs and eight RBIs in his past seven games. White Sox starter Miguel Gonzalez allowed one run on five hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked three.

Red Sox 10, Cardinals 4

Hanley Ramirez and Sandy Leon drove in two runs apiece in an eight-run fifth inning that carried Boston past St. Louis.

Ten consecutiv­e Red Sox batters reached base, and 13 came to the plate while chasing Mike Leake (7-11) and propelling Boston to its 11th win in 13 games. Rick Porcello (7-14), helped by a fourth-inning triple play turned on a Yadier Molina grounder, allowed three runs in seven innings.

Jackie Bradley Jr. also drove in two runs, and Xander Bogaerts contribute­d three singles to a 15-hit Boston attack that included two more hits for rookie sensation Rafael Devers.

Nationals 3, Angels 1

Howie Kendrick hit two solo home runs, and Gio Gonzalez allowed no runs and two hits in six innings as Washington snapped Los Angeles’ six-game winning streak.

Gonzalez (11-5) walked three and struck out four. He didn’t give up a hit until there were two outs in the sixth, when Cameron Maybin reached on an infield single.

Kendrick hit solo homers in the third -the 100th of his career -- and fifth innings to open a 2-0 lead. Sean Doolittle threw a perfect ninth to get his ninth save with the Nationals.

Reds 2, Cubs 1

Billy Hamilton delivered a ninth-inning RBI single, and Luis Castillo pitched six shutout innings as Cincinnati defeated Chicago.

Scooter Gennett’s eighth-inning sacrifice fly off the Cubs’ Pedro Strop (3-3) broke a scoreless tie, driving in Joey Votto. In the ninth, Votto walked, reached third on an Adam Duvall single and scored on Hamilton’s hit, making it 2-0.

The Cubs got within a run in the ninth when Ben Zobrist singled in Kyle Schwarber, who led off the inning with a single. However, with the tying run on third base, the Reds’ Raisel Iglesias struck out Ian Happ to end the game and pick up his 21st save.

Rays 6, Blue Jays 4

Lucas Duda hit a two-run homer, Wilson Ramos hit a solo shot, and Blake Snell won for the first time in nearly a year as Tampa Bay defeated Toronto.

Snell (1-6) allowed seven hits, one walk and four runs while striking out four in six innings. The left-hander had not won in the majors since September 22, a span of 16 winless starts. Alex Colome earned his 35th save with a perfect ninth, striking out two.

Josh Donaldson hit a three-run homer for the Blue Jays, who had a three-game winning string stopped. Marco Estrada (5-8) allowed 10 hits, four walks and six runs in 41/3 innings. He struck out three.

Astros 9, Diamondbac­ks 4

Alex Bregman, Yuli Gurriel and Jose Altuve had two hits apiece, and George Springer doubled in two runs in Houston’s victory over Arizona.

Max Stassi doubled and homered, Gurriel and Bregman had RBI triples, and starting pitcher Brad Peacock also had a two-run double as the Astros pounded out eight extra-base hits while jumping to an 8-0 lead. Houston, which leads the majors in runs, hits, doubles and homers, had scored 17 runs while losing six of its previous seven.

Ketel Marte and Paul Goldschmid­t had two hits apiece, and Jake Lamb drove in two runs for the Diamondbac­ks, who have lost five of seven.
