Leafs blank Habs › Jackets win 7th straight

William Nylander, Kasperi Kapanen, Nazem Kadri and Andreas Johnsson scored goals, and the Toronto Maple Leafs easily defeated their arch-rival, the visiting Montreal Canadiens, for their fourth consecutiv­e win on Saturday night.

Curtis McElhinney turned away 33 shots for the Maple Leafs.

The Canadiens have lost two in a row and are 1-5-2 in their past eight games.

Blue Jackets 2, Senators 1

Boone Jenner and Markus Nutivaara each scored a goal as host Columbus rallied to victory over Ottawa.

The Blue Jackets extended their winning streak to seven games. Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves to also help Columbus earn its seventh consecutiv­e home victory.

Blues 4, Rangers 3 (OT)

Brayden Schenn’s wrister from the right circle at 1:02 of overtime gave St. Louis a win over visiting New York.

After Jake Allen stopped Chris K reider’ s point blank bid for a game-winner, Schenntall­ied his 25th goal off a pass from Alex Pietrangel­o, who earned his third point of the night.

St. Louis forced overtime with Pietrangel­o’s second marker of the night at 5:15 of the third period. Mika Zibanejad scored twice for the Rangers.

Bruins 3, Lightning 0

Tuukka Rask had 23 saves while picking up his third shutout of the season and Torey Krug had three assists to lead Boston on the road over Tampa Bay.

It was the 41st career shutout for Rask and marked the first time this season that the Lightning were shut out. David Pastrnak, David Backes and Riley Nash each scored goals for the Bruins, who moved within two points of the first-place Lightning with a game in hand.

Devils 3, Kings 0

Keith Kinkaid made 38 saves as visiting New Jersey beat host Los Angeles.

Kinkaid improved to 9-2-0 in his last 11 starts and recorded his fourth career shutout. He stopped 19 shots in the first, eight in the second and 11 more in the third. He also helped kill off six Kings power plays.

Michael Grabner scored a short-handed goal and Nico Hischier tallied on even strength in the opening period as the Devils won their third straight game on a season-high six-game road trip.

Flyers 4, Hurricanes 2

Valtteri Filppula had the go-ahead goal with 5:49 left, and Philadelph­ia scored four times in the third period to beat host Carolina. The Flyers snapped a two-game skid. Philadelph­ia’s Travis Konecny tied the game 1-1 with 11:41 left in the third period. Carolina responded and retook the lead, 2-1, just over two minutes later on a goal by Jaccob Slavin. The Flyers tied the game again on a goal by Jakub Voracek with 8:02 remaining. Filppula then gave Philadelph­ia its first lead with his 11th goal of the season with 5:49 left.

Oilers 4, Panthers 2

Connor McDavid scored the tying goal and had an assist on the go-ahead score as visiting Edmonton rallied to defeat Florida.

McDavid also added an assist on Ty Rattie’s empty-net goal with 50 seconds left. McDavid has 19 goals in his past 22 games. For the season, he has 34 goals and 55 assists, ranking third in the NHL with 89 points entering Saturday night. All three of McDavid’s points came in the third period.

Sabres 5, Blackhawks 3

Nicholas Baptiste scored twice, including the go-ahead goal on the power play with 1:56 left in the third period, and Buffalo held on for a win over visiting Chicago.

Benoit Pouliot, Ryan O’Reilly and Sam Reinhart also scored for Buffalo, which snapped a two-game winless streak.

The Blackhawks have lost two straight and four of their past five.

Sharks 5, Canucks 3

Timo Meier scored two goals, including the winner, as visiting San Jose beat Vancouver.

Meier’s second goal of the night broke a 3-3 tie at 6:07 of the third period as he wired a long shot home during a counteratt­ack.

Logan Couture, Tomas Hertl and Kevin Labanc each had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who posted their fourth consecutiv­e win. The Canucks took their season-worst sixth straight loss.
