Yanks crush Marlins › Braves end Phillies' streak
Luis Severino fired six scoreless innings of one-hit ball, and Didi Gregorius homered twice for the second time this year as the New York Yankees beat the Miami Marlins 12-1 at Yankee Stadium on Monday night.
Severino (3-1) struck out eight and walked one.
Aaron Judge and Gregorius slugged their fourth homers as New York opened an 11-0 lead in the first five innings. Gregorius added a solo shot in the seventh.
Gary Sanchez had three hits and three RBIs. Judge, Gregorius, Miguel Andujar, Brett Gardner and Tyler Austin had two hits each for the Yankees.
Braves 2, Phillies 1
Julio Teheran struck out nine batters in six strong innings, and Atlanta ended visiting Philadelphia’s six-game winning streak.
Teheran (1-1) allowed one run on five hits, one of them a solo homer from Odubel Herrera in the first inning. The right-hander walked three.
Atlanta tied the game in the bottom of the first inning when Freddie Freeman grounded into a double play that scored Ender Inciarte. The Braves got their other run in the fourth when Ozzie Albies scored on Kurt Suzuki’s sacrifice fly.
Rockies 6, Pirates 2
German Marquez took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, and Trevor Story and Charlie Blackmon continued Colorado’s home run parade as the visiting Rockies downed Pittsburgh.
Marquez (1-1) allowed two runs on two hits in six innings with two walks and six strikeouts. Chris Rusin allowed two hits in two scoreless innings of relief, and Adam Ottavino pitched a clean ninth with two strikeouts.
Story hit a three-run homer in the fourth and Blackmon added a solo shot in the eighth for the Rockies, who lead the National League with 26 homers. They have homered in seven of their past eight games, hitting a total of 14 in that stretch.
Rays 8, Rangers 4
Wilson Ramos had three hits and two RBIs, and Mallex Smith had a career-high-tying four hits to back the excellent pitching of Blake Snell as host Tampa Bay rolled past Texas.
Snell (2-1) hurled 61/3 innings, allowing just one run on five hits with nine strikeouts and no walks, to help the Rays snap a four-game losing streak.
Snell got plenty of early offensive help as Tampa Bay scored all eight of its runs in the first four innings off Texas starter Martin Perez (1-2).
Nationals 8, Mets 6
Michael A. Taylor worked a bases-loaded walk to cap a six-run eighth inning by Washington, which stunned host New York.
The Nationals appeared headed for their fourth loss in as many games this season against the Mets, who led 6-1 with staff ace Jacob deGrom still on the mound to begin the eighth inning. However, deGrom was lifted with two on and one out, and four relievers could not stop the barrage.
Washington’s Howie Kendrick homered leading off the ninth. Bryce Harper accounted for the Nationals’ only run in the first seven innings with a broken-bat home run in the first.
Reds 10, Brewers 4
Luis Castillo pitched 62/3 innings and added a run-scoring single as Cincinnati broke an eight-game losing streak with a win at Milwaukee. Castillo (1-2) allowed four runs and five hits and three walks while striking out eight.
Leadoff hitter Billy Hamilton singled twice and drove in three runs for the Reds.
Adam Duvall had three hits, while Joey Votto and rookie outfielder Phillip Ervin had two hits apiece for Cincinnati. (Reuters)
