- • By JUDY SIEGEL

For the first time, more than 20 countries are sending delegations headed by ministers and deputy ministers of science to the first conference of its kind in the world.

It will be held in Jerusalem at the end of May under the auspices of the Science and Technology Ministry.

The conference will deal with innovative ideas in science that have led to groundbreaking successes and government science policy. Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akun presented the main points of the conference he initiated during the cabinet meeting on Sunday.

In May, “we will mark an unprecedented international event, with more than 20 international delegations – including science ministers from all over the world – coming to Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, to salute science, innovation and Israeli technology.”

Among them, he said, will be the science ministers of India, Britain, Argentina, Poland, Thailand, Kenya, Uganda, Spain and the Czech Republic. “They will come here, as one of them told me, ‘to learn from us how to be a science and technology superpower,’” Akunis said.

The conference will present leading and successful figures from the world of science and technology, including Nobel laureates, alongside an exhibition of innovative Israeli and technological innovations.
