Seed-a-Memory

A unique tribute and memorial to Lithuanian Jews who perished in the Holocaust, was recently launched titled “Plant a Tree, Sow a Memory.” The project involved a new forest being planted in the Negev, as well as a virtual website: https:// seedamemory.org/, which allows people from all over the world to plant virtual trees to commemorate the victims of the Lithuanian Jewish community, to search for the names of their loved ones on the commemorative wall, and to add to the growing database. The digital site will, of course, allow visitors to donate and plant real trees in Israel, too, through JNF-KKL.

Over 25,000 trees were planted in the new forest, as part of a series of new ecological projects aimed at rehabilitating forests throughout Israel. The website and forest was established thanks to a significant donation from businessman and philanthropist Roman Abramovich, who immigrated to Israel from Lithuania, and who was orphaned from his parents at a very young age. He grew up with his Uncle Leib, who maintained a traditional Jewish home.
