LONDON (Reuters) – Toby Alderweireld's 81st-minute header sealed a 2-1 Premier League victory for Tottenham Hotspur against Arsenal in the first north London derby in their new stadium on Sunday.

The match appeared to be heading for a draw but Alderweireld claimed all three points for Spurs to move Jose Mourinho's side above Arsenal into eighth place in the battle for local pride.

With three games left Tottenham have 52 points to Arsenal's 50, but are seven points behind fourth-placed Leicester City.

Arsenal took the lead in spectacular fashion with Alexandre Lacazette's 17th-minute pile-driver but it was pegged back almost immediately as Son Heung-min punished a defensive error.

Both sides were denied by the woodwork and Arsenal was in the ascendancy after the break before Tottenham's strong finish sealed a third successive home win since the restart.

Elsewhere, Wolverhampton Wanderers boosted their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League with a 3-0 home win over Everton on Sunday.

Victory lifted Nuno Espirito Santo's side up to sixth in the standings – four points behind fourth-place Leicester City, which played Bournemouth later on Sunday in a match that finished after press time.

Wolves took the lead in first-half stoppage time when Daniel Podence was fouled by Lucas Digne and Raul Jimenez maintained his 100% penalty conversion rate this season to score his 16th goal of the league campaign.

Leander Dendoncker doubled the lead straight after the interval when he directed a glancing header past the outstretched arm of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Diogo Jota made it 3-0 after midfielder Ruben Neves found him with a pinpoint cross-field ball as Everton remained in 11th place with three matches left in the season.

On Saturday, David McGoldrick scored twice for Sheffield United as it upset Chelsea with a 3-0 win at Bramall Lane.

Chelsea's grip on a top four place – and Champions League qualification – was weakened badly by the result and the Blues could fall to fifth if Leicester City beat Bournemouth on Sunday and Manchester United overcomes Southampton a day later.

A fourth straight home win in the league for the Blades boosted their hopes of a first-ever appearance in the Europa League as they moved up to sixth on 54 points.

McGoldrick had not previously found the net in the Premier League, but opened the scoring for Chris Wilder's team when Oli McBurnie's shot was pushed out by Chelsea 'keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and the Ireland striker fired home.

McBurnie then doubled the lead in the 33rd minute with a powerful, angled header.

The 32-year-old McGoldrick wrapped up the win in the 77th minute, slotting home after Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger failed to deal with a shot from Lys Mousset.

In other action, champion Liverpool failed to win at home for the first time in the Premier League since January 2019 after it was held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley.

Jay Rodriguez equalized for Burnley in the 69th minute after Andy Robertson had given Liverpool a first-half lead.

Liverpool now has 93 points with three games remaining as it hunts down Manchester City's record total of 100 points from two years ago. Burnley is ninth on 50 points.

Keeper Nick Pope kept Liverpool at bay with a series of good saves, including a brilliant reaction to keep out a close-range effort from Mohamed Salah in the 18th minute.

But Liverpool's domination finally came to fruition in the 34th minute when Fabinho floated in a cross from the left and Andy Robertson met it with a perfectly angled header into the top corner.

Pope was outstanding again to keep out a Sadio Mane drive with the Burnley 'keeper largely responsible for the Clarets heading in at the break only a goal down. *Liverpool Man City Chelsea Leicester City Man United Wolverhampton Sheffield United Tottenham Arsenal Burnley Everton Southampton Newcastle Crystal Palace Brighton & Hove West Ham Watford Aston Villa Bournemouth Norwich City 35 35 35 34 34 35 35 35 35 35 35 34 35 35 35 35 35 35 34 35 30 23 18 17 16 14 14 14 12 14 12 13 11 11 8 9 8 8 7 5 3 3 6 8 10 13 12 10 14 8 9 5 10 9 12 7 10 6 7 6 2 9 11 9 8 8 9 11 9 13 14 16 14 15 15 19 17 21 20 24 76 91 63 64 59 48 38 54 51 39 41 43 36 30 36 44 33 38 32 26 27 34 49 32 33 37 33 45 44 47 52 56 52 45 52 59 54 65 59 67 93 72 60 59 58 55 54 52 50 50 45 44 43 42 36 34 34 30 28 21

Liverpool's Roberto Firmino should have had his first league goal at Anfield this season, but scuffed his shot against the post in the 49th minute.

But Burnley drew level with a well-struck finish from Rodriguez after James Tarkowski had headed down a deeply hit free-kick.

Also, West Ham United consigned Norwich City to relegation from the Premiership as four goals from Michail Antonio gave the London side a 4-0 win at Carrow Road.

The result leaves Norwich bottom of the standings with 21 points – 13 adrift of 17th-place Watford, which beat Newcastle United 2-1 with three more rounds of fixtures to be played.

Antonio constantly troubled the Norwich defense with his presence in the box and the 30-year-old struck twice in each half to become the first West Ham player to score four in a league game since 1981, doubling his season's tally.

West Ham, which is 16th, moved six points clear of the relegation zone and are above Watford on goal difference.
