The Egyptian Museum in Turin
Era un compito impegnativo per la Fondazione del nuovo Museo Egizio di Torino: attivare uno dei più grandi cantieri europei (50 milioni di euro) senza chiudere un giorno nei cinque anni di lavori e aprire nei tempi previsti rivoluzionando gli spazi e recuperando i dettagli decorativi dell’edifcio storico. Compito eseguito. Fra i 10 musei più visitati d’Italia (115mila visitatori ad aprile), tra i primi 100 al mondo, il nuovo museo torinese, inaugurato un mese prima dell’apertura di Expo, racchiude tra le sue mura barocche reperti millenari unici (soprattutto dopo le recenti devastazioni al Museo del Cairo) dal 4000 al 700 a.C., ora fruibili anche attraverso ricostruzioni virtuali. Il restauro di Isolarchitetti ha restituito uno spazio raddoppiato con l’aggiunta di tre nuovi piani ai volumi originali e alla Galleria Sabauda. La grafca, le metastorie, gli elementi narrativi sono stati progettati da Migliore+Servetto Architects. L’integrazione tra lo spazio architettonico e quello espositivo è risolta con grandi vetrine – 103, cui si aggiungono 70 “armadi” visitabili per un totale di 2.190 mq di vetro – del Laboratorio Museotecnico Goppion. A conclusione del percorso, un coup de théâtre nella sala del monumentale statuario, con scenografa ideata dal premio Oscar Dante Ferretti. (MP) The Foundation for the new Egyptian Museum in Turin was given a challenging task: to set up one of the biggest redevelopment sites in Europe (at a cost of 50 million euros) without closing for a single day during the five years it would take to finish the redesign of the entire space while at the same time restoring the decorative details of the historic building. That task has now been completed. One of the top ten most visited museums in Italy (115,000 visitors by April), and one of the top hundred in the world, Turin’s new museum holds within its Baroque walls some absolutely priceless exhibits that are several millennia old dated between 4,000 and 700 B.C., and now accessible also through virtual reconstructions. The restoration by Isolarchitetti has created a museum that is now twice the size, with the addition of three new floors to the original building and to the Galleria Sabauda. The graphic design, the meta-stories and the narrative elements were designed by Migliore+Servetto Architects. The architectural features and the display space have been integrated through the use of large glass walls by Laboratorio Museotecnico Goppion. The visit ends with a veritable coup de théâtre in the beautifully-lit monumental statuary room, redesigned by Oscar-winning art director Dante Ferretti
