Snø­het­ta in San Fran­ci­sco

Il 14 mag­gio sa­rà inau­gu­ra­to l’am­plia­men­to del San Fran­ci­sco Mu­seum of Mo­dern Art, ope­ra di Snø­het­ta che in par­te in­glo­ba il mu­seo ori­gi­na­rio rea­liz­za­to da Ma­rio Botta nel 1995. I due lin­guag­gi, quel­lo dell’ar­chi­tet­to sviz­ze­ro e quel­lo del­lo stu­dio nor­ve­ge­se, so­no dif­fe­ren­ti fra lo­ro per la scel­ta dei ma­te­ria­li, per le com­po­nen­ti cro­ma­ti­che e so­prat­tut­to per una di­ver­sa vi­sio­ne del­la for­ma – geo­me­tri­ca e sta­ti­ca nel pri­mo ca­so, flui­da e or­ga­ni­ca nel se­con­do. Ep­pu­re han­no un ele­men­to in co­mu­ne: l’im­pron­ta ma­te­ri­ca e com­pat­ta che fa eco al­la den­si­tà del tes­su­to ur­ba­no. L’aspet­to di­na­mi­co del­la fac­cia­ta prin­ci­pa­le dell’am­plia­men­to, che trae la sua ispi­ra­zio­ne dai mo­vi­men­ti del­la neb­bia e del­le ac­que del­la ba­ia, è af­fi­da­to a ol­tre 700 pan­nel­li di un po­li­me­ro rin­for­za­to con fi­bra di ve­tro, si­mi­li a fa­sce orizzontali in­cre­spa­te, sen­si­bi­li al­le va­ria­zio­ni del­la lu­ce. L’in­te­ra­zio­ne con gli ele­men­ti del­lo scenario ur­ba­no e del­la na­tu­ra av­vie­ne an­che at­tra­ver­so una teo­ria di ter­raz­ze con vi­sta sul­la cit­tà e dal giar­di­no ver­ti­ca­le, po­po­la­to da cir­ca 16mi­la pian­te e nu­tri­to da un si­ste­ma di ac­qua ri­ci­cla­ta. Inau­gu­ra a mag­gio l’am­plia­men­to del Mu­seo d’Ar­te Mo­der­na The ex­ten­sion to the Mo­dern Art Mu­seum opens in May

The ex­ten­sion to the San Fran­ci­sco Mu­seum of Mo­dern Art, whi­ch de­si­gner Snø­het­ta has in­cor­po­ra­ted in­to the ori­gi­nal mu­seum crea­ted by Ma­rio Botta in 1995, opens on 14 Mar­ch. The two idioms used by the Swiss ar­chi­tect and the Nor­we­gian prac­ti­ce re­spec­ti­ve­ly are di­stinct from ea­ch other in terms of the ma­te­rials used, their co­lour sche­mes and the dif­fe­rent for­mal ap­proa­ch adop­ted, the for­mer being geo­me­tric and sta­tic, whi­le the lat­ter is fluid and or­ga­nic. And yet they do ha­ve one thing in com­mon: a com­pact, tex­tu­ral qua­li­ty that echoes the den­se ur­ban fa­bric. The dy­na­mic qua­li­ty of the ex­ten­sion’s main faça­de, whi­ch ta­kes its in­spi­ra­tion from the lo­cal fog and the wa­ters of the bay, com­pri­ses over 700 stria­ted pa­nels ma­de of a fi­bre­glass-rein­for­ced po­ly­mer that ap­pear as rip­pling ho­ri­zon­tal bands sen­si­ti­ve to chan­ges in the light. In­te­rac­tion wi­th the ci­ty­sca­pe and wi­th va­rious na­tu­ral ele­men­ts is achie­ved th­rou­gh a set of ter­ra­ces that gi­ve views out on­to the ci­ty and th­rou­gh the ver­ti­cal gar­den, whi­ch will ha­ve so­me 16,000 plan­ts and be fed by a re­cy­cled wa­ter sy­stem
