L’inaugurazione è prevista a fine 2018, ma la notizia ha già destato interesse. Non si era mai visto un sistema per lo stoccaggio delle opere d’arte accessibile al grande pubblico, integrato da uno schema museale inedito. Il Public Art Depot, estensione del Museum Boijmans van Beuningen di Rotterdam, firmato dagli architetti olandesi Mvrdv, sarà la casa per 75mila opere d’arte, un deposito che condensa in un luogo sicuro – anche sotto controllo climatico e lontano dal rischio di allagamento o incendio – quel patrimonio artistico solitamente sparpagliato per vari magazzini delle periferie della città e di cui in media solo il 7 per cento (alla volta) viene esposto. Una porzione del deposito, circa 1600 metri quadrati, verrà data in affitto a un costo di 350-400 euro al metro quadrato permettendo a collezionisti privati di esibire le proprie opere per cinque anni. The opening is planned for the end of 2018, but the news is already stirring interest. There has never been a system for the storage of works of art accessible to the general public, and it will be complemented by an unprecedented scheme for a museum. The Public Art Depot, an extension of the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam designed by the Dutch architecture firm Mvrdv, will be home to 75,000 works of art, a storehouse that will bring together in a safe place – with a controlled climate and remote from any risk of flooding or fire – an artistic patrimony usually scattered around various places on the outskirts of the city and of which on average only 7 per cent is exhibited (at any one time). A portion of the depot, some 1,600 square metres, will be rented out at a cost of 350-400 euros a square metre, allowing private collectors to show their own works for a period of five years
